Malou: Hi everyone and welcome to Know Your PC. I'm Malou.
Bob: I'm Bob.
Malou: Updates. I like the updates. I like when things are new.
We're going to show you how to update your HP TouchSmart PC.
Bob: Now, some of these updates might be minor bug fixes, they might be software updates
or whole new features that go into the TouchSmart software or into your HP TouchSmart computer.
Malou: All right. So after the updates there are new features, we will show you.
And these updates by the way are as of July 2008.
HP has these pop up reminders that show up on your screen that will tell you,
check for an update. Bob: That's right.
Malou: Okay.
You can do that that way or we're going to show you how to do it right now manually.
Bob: There are two ways to do it manually, let me show you the first way.
Go down to the Start button, down here in the lower left-hand corner. Go down to All Programs
and then you'll find HP in All Programs, click that, go to HP Update.
That's what we're talking about, that's the whole point of the segment. Let's go to HP Update.
So now it's going to ask for permission, I say continue and this wizard will come up.
This is the HP Update wizard. I'm going to press Next.
And it's now going to search the internet for our updates.
Malou: You do need an internet connection to get these updates.
Bob: You're darn right you do. Malou: Right?
Bob: And then you've got pops up like this. And it's found all these different updates for us.
And then you can see there's a little brief description to what the update does.
Also how long it's going to take to download. All right? I'm going to press Cancel
because Malou is going to show us another way to find the updates.
Malou: All right. So you can also do it with the HP TouchSmart application.
First, you're going to launch that by touching the house in the bottom right corner.
Now, you may have to add the tile that says HP Update so to do that we're going to
go to Personalize, right over here. I'm going to look for the tile that says HP Updates.
What I want to do is turn that tile on.
Bob: All right. I see it's grayed out up here.
Malou: It's grayed out right here. So once I touch it it turns blue. I'm going to touch Ok.
Bob: Great.
Malou: Automatically it shows up in the lower tile section.
I'm going to put it in the large tile section. I'm going to press, hold. I see the blue line,
I'm going to drag and drop. Now, to launch HP Update, touch once. There you have it.
The same window that you saw right there which says ... yes, I do have permission.
I'm going to touch Continue and there is the screen right there. Welcome to HP Update.
Now, there's also a settings box right over here where you can decide on how often
you want to check for these updates. It says one week, one month, every three months.
I have mine set to one week so that I can find out about the updates all the time.
Okay? I'm going to touch Ok.
Bob: Now, we're not going to launch the updates on this one because
it's going to take a little while. And we have already got the updates on another computer.
While Malou clears the keyboard and whatnot.
Malou: Thank you.
Bob: Just to let you guys know, depending on both your internet speed as well as how many
updates you need, that's how long it will take to update your computer. All right.
Malou: So, it takes some time here is basically what we're trying to say.
Bob: Just because I have little computer out of the oven.
Malou: So it's almost like a cooking show.
It's like when you put something in the oven, it takes 20 minutes or so to bake.
Bob: Depending on how long you want the soft crust to be on top.
I like it little firm but I like a soft center. That's how I do it.
Malou: All right. This is all the new updates. The magic of television. You like that?
Bob: That's right. That's right. Malou: Okay.
Now we're going to see a new updates.
Bob: Yeah, let's show you the new update.
Malou: I'm having a hard time taking you seriously with that hat on though, you know.
Bob: I know what I'm doing. I'm a trained professional.
All right, let's look at the updates now. First, let's go to the music category shall we?
Malou: All right, let me help you.
Bob: Thank you so much dear. These hands are withered and old from cutting so many tomatoes.
Malou: Oh my goodness! You ready?
Bob: All right, so we'll go to music and in music the greatest update we have so far are the latest,
excuse me, latest and greatest. You might be messing around at home with your playlists.
We have one right here. The nice thing about the new update is in the playlist.
You can now edit your playlist by rearranging songs. It says up here Edit.
You can also repeat and shuffle your playlist. That was not an option you had before.
Malou: All right. So there's one of the new updates, the new features in music.
There's also a new update in the video section so I'm going to touch video.
Bob: All right.
Malou: With the current update you can see that when we go into videos you can create
playlists with your video. If you have three or four or five, whatever you want, they will
automatically be right in there for you. You see that I have several here. One, two, three, four ...
Bob: [inaudible] different folders and here's your different create your playlist right down here.
And now we have one more update, so delicious, it's so exciting for you people at home.
I can't wait to show you. If we go under photos, where is it here love? Oh, there it is.
Malou: Okay. New feature right here is create a slideshow.
Bob: That's right. Before you could push slideshow and it would just happen
and all the photos would go in the slideshow, now you can create your own slideshow.
Let's say you have a wedding that you're creating a slideshow for.
Malou: A little cooking segment. Bob: A cooking show, yes.
Malou: Cooking photos, before and afters. Okay?
Bob: So you can create and you can drag and drop and make your own fun slideshow.
Now, we're out of here and there you have all the upgrades as of July 2008.
Malou: Is that your chef voice or what? Bob: Yeah ... yes.
Malou: All right. Now you're up to speed. You're updated. Have fun with music, photos and videos.
Bob: That's right. Malou: If you have any questions for us, maybe you like Bob's recipe,
you can send us an email at knowyourpc@hp.com.
Bob: Or you can go to hp.com/touchsmart if you want to see more stuff.
Thank you so much for cooking with me today.
Malou: He's Bob. Bob: And this is Malou.
Malou: See you next time. Bob: You are so wonderful.
