So warmly welcome everyone to Awesound and my first livestream here form Stockholm, Sweden.
And today we have two questions that have come in. Thank you so much for sending in
your questions. It's great because then I can have a direct dialog with you and help
you as much as possible to be the best you can be in your music and creativity. So thank
you so much for sending in your questions. You can send your questions to awesound.org@gmail.com.
Thank you so much for your questions. So the first question this week is from Amit. And
she writes: My main request is if you can help me to tune up my musical ear. My main
challenge is that is because I am not used to listening it is very hard for me to keep
the right tone when singing, as I don't feel the difference between what I am singing and
the right tone. This can be a very common problem for people that are not used to singing.
People refer this to as being tone deaf. I remember when I started singing when I was
a child. I had a lot of problems when I sang in the choir for example because I did not
sing so load so I could hear my own voice so then it often turned out to be that I wasn't
in the right pitch and I didn't sing in tune with the song and with the others. But if
you haven't really been in that circumstance to really listen to your voice, train up and
to use our hearing in that way. Even if you are grown up you never develop that part of
yourself. Then it can be a little bit tricky. It is not to late but it can take some time
to practice that. I want to share some techniques to practice that. Even now when I went to
school I had some problems singing in tune the last years. So I really got down with
the problem and practiced for one year singing in tune and taking songs really slowly singing
songs by the piano. And this exercise really got down with the problem and it really solved
the problem for me, so now I can sing really good in tune, and everyone says, "You sound
really in tune when you sing" So I want to share this little exercise with you because
it is a great exercise. What I did what sit down by a piano. I am sure there is a virtual
piano if you don't have an actual piano. You can just search on virtual piano on google
and I'm sure you will find that there. So I just hit a random note and listened to how
that sounds. I hit a random note and listen to how that sounds, and I sing that note.
Exactly that note. Without sliding up or down. So if I hit the note ..... I sing .....without
starting....or....and that is a really great way to connect the ear with the singing because
you really have to get those two connected. And then I hit another note....I sing......If
I sing....and slide up its still a good start if you need to slide up. If you are not used
to this exercise and singing in tune you might slide up a lot like ...but thats OK, as long
as you find that note and match them, then thats a sign of having the hearing you want
and you are on the right path. If you really want to get down with this issue and be able
to sing in tune I would do this every day. Start the day with this exercise. Just tune
in, take some noters on the piano and sing the exact same note. That will really help
you develop your hearing, connect with your voice and you will really start to sing amazingly
soon. Even if you are a professional singer this can be a great exercise because often
times when you are going to hit a high note for example or a note that you are not quite
familiar with It's so easy to slide just a little like....Hit it just beneath the right
pitch and slide up, but with this exercise you really get down with this problem and
hit the notes. You will hear them in your head first and then you hit them exactly as
you want. That's how you want to be on stage. That's how you want to deliver when you sing.
You want to sing at your best. You want to amaze people with your singing and I promise
you you can really do this. You can really sing amazingly and I really want to help you
to get down and sing as you possibly can. Another great exercise hear is taking a melody
that you really like. It can be a simple melody like.....and sing that really slow. Hit the
first note on the piano.... and then you have that as a reference point....You have that
first note always ringing and you compare your own note with that note to get those
really syncs and really clean. I practiced for a year only this exercise every day so
much. It was the best way with getting down with singing in tune, and really sing amazingly.
So I hope those tips can help you Amit and please let me know if I can assist you any
further there. Send me more questions and I am so happy to support you there. Don't
expect this to happen for you in a week or two. I would say practice this exercise for
a couple of months if you want to see great results here. But I promise you, you can do
it and I want to help you with this.
So the next question is from Anne and she writes: "My songs sounds more or less the
same. I have some favorite chords that I like to use but I feel I want to use some more
chords, maybe some jazzy chords also. I would like to know how to do variations with rhythms
and melody lines in the song and also in the intro. Great! Thats a great question Anne,
thank you so much for asking that question. So what I want to say. So my interpretation
is that you know some guitar chords and you've been doing music for a while and that's great.
So, this is a great tips here that I want to share with you. Even if you know a hundred
guitar chords doesn't make you a better musician or that people will like the stuff you do
more. There are tons of singers, musicians and songwriters that know so much that is
becomes a limitation for them. They don't know where to start. I would say If you know
three guitar chords that is perfect. I want you to take those three chords and write an
amazing song with those three chords. If you put a hundred chords in a song it won't make
the song better so start with those three chords and write something that will really
touch people. Open up your heart and share something from your own experience that will
touch people that they're not used to hear. Share something from your own experience,
something you've gone through. You know what I'm talking about here. Get to the point of
what you want to share in your life and share that in a song and that will make your song
amazing, not putting more chords in there. Make your song interesting. Make your song
really great with those three chords. If you know three chords thats the perfect limitation.
SO if you start with those three chords and just get down and write and amazing song.
I want to hear that song, so send it to me. I think that's a great start for you. I'm
happy to share more guitar shores with you as well but for this week just focus on those
three chords and write the most touching song you can and record that in a video and send
it to me. I want to hear it. I would say that is the best way for you to go now.
I want to do a review this week as well of the "Singing Success Program" Brett Manning's
Singing Success. You can find him on Singingsuccess.com and I have take this course and this is a
great course. I have done other online music courses and singing courses specifically as
well but this one had really great exercises and it made my voice more relaxed, more potent.
I can sing higher notes, I can sing lower notes and it really ramped up my way of singing.
He does it in a really great way. I bought the online version and there is tons of singsongs
that I can practice to: He puts comment in while the exercises are going and remind you
to relax and not to strain, not to push to hard. Brett is one of those persons who is
really passionate about singing and he really loves what he does.I have taken a couple of
face-to-face lessons with him and I would really recommend that as well because he is
really honest, he is the perfect vocal coach to go for. We really had a great time when
we were doing these lessons. I'm going to see if I can upload them to my youtube channel.
That would be really fun for you to see. The Singing Success Course, I would really recommend
it. One thing that he could have done a little better is that some of the exercises distort
a little bit on a couple of tracks. He could have made them a little better but the overall
review is that is really takes you beyond your comfort zone in your singing and gives
you that extra range and that extra potency in your voice that you maybe didn't have before.
This problem of singing with to much air like ....it so common and 90 percent of all singers
have this problem and when you start out as a singer that's the most common problem. But
I would say with his Singing Success Program he really gets down with that problem and
gets you connected throughout your range. In your low notes, in your mid range and in
your high notes. So I would suggest checking that out. Also combining that with singing
songs, finding good singers on Youtube. Copy what they do, learn from them, sing along,
earn their riffs and runs. Get down with what they are doing. So let's see if that was something
else I wanted to share about that. Yes, it has a six month money back guarantee. So that's
really great so if you buy it you can send it back and get the money back. So that is
a really safe way of teaching. The course contains one technique section that I really
like. I spent most of the time focusing on that and there's also a style section. I would
say the style section is more for beginners and those who don't have a particular style
in their singing yet. Its great trying out many different styles in your singing. Because
if you like singing one particular style. If you like singing rock. Maybe some day you
try to sing country and someone says "Wow, Ive never heard you sound that good before"
And if you only would have stuck to your rock style then you maybe would have done that
pretty well but maybe you're a super good country singer. So its great truing out many
different styles first, then when someone comes up to you and says "Wow, you sound so
good today what have you done?" When someone comes up to you and say that then you know
what style to go for. Then you can zoom in a Ned focus on that style. But in the beginning
it's great to try out many different styles to try them out. So check out the Singing
Success Program. Thank you so much for watching today. It's been great answering your questions.
I hope to do this more in the future. So I hope this is a start. Please send your questions
in to awesound.org@gmail.com and I'm so happy to answer them here live for you. Thank you
so much for watching and have a lovely day. Bye Bye!
