Governor Martin O'Malley: Now more than ever our State's ability to produce clean renewable energy
is critical to reducing our carbon footprint and creating a greener,
a more sustainable, a more prosperous future for Maryland
and future generations.
That's why together we set a goal
of increasing Maryland's Renewable Energy Portfolio,
that is to say the energy that we all use,
to 20% by 2022.
Narrator: Under Governor O'Malley's leadership
just this year almost 500 Marylanders received grants from the State
for solar and wind projects.
Maryland became one of 10 states to the participate in
the Nation's first Greenhouse Gas Cap and Trade Option.
Recently Maryland joined a consortium, under President Obama's leadership
to kickstart off shore wind production along the Atlantic Coast.
Maryland now provides incentives for the purchase of plug-in electric cars
and revenue generated by the Nation's first Greenhouse Gas Cap and Trade Option
is now used to finance
even more energy efficiency and alternative energy programs.
And Maryland finally jump-starting large renewable energy projects
providing the equivalent of powering 30,000 Maryland homes each year
with stable pricing and a cleaner environment.
Governor: Together we've tripled the amount of solar energy produced in Maryland
and we're working with our Federal partners
to develop off shore wind opportunities along the Atlantic Coast,
and we've also invested nearly $10 million
in Federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds
to finance a large-scale energy overhauls throughout Maryland.
More than 160 local communities in 13 counties
have already received these grants
and their work is supporting countless Green Jobs across our State.
We're committed to generating as much renewable power in Maryland as possible
creating jobs, building a sustainable Green Infrastructure,
and providing clean energy to our homes and our businesses.
