Hi everybody, it's Andrew! And my cat is back there cause She is... having a good time.
Today with me I have The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler.
So without giving too much away, Cause it kind of unravels itself as you goes.
And it's really interesting...
Elyse has gone mute from some Sort of accident in the ocean
That happened when she lived in the Caribbean, And she's gone to live with some family friends
On a beach in Oregon. It's a tiny little town in Oregon
No one really knows about, There's no tourists or anything.
She ends up meeting this other guy, Christian, when she's hiding out on his boat one time.
Cause she doesn't realize That the boat belongs to anyone.
And he finds her writing on the walls in the boat.
At a party for Christian's birthday,
The mayor makes a bet with Christian's dad, Who owns the cottages.
To see if he will sell them or not for a renovation plan.
The bet is on a boat race between his son and Christian,
Which is a problem because usually Christian And his son race in the boat races together.
Elyse offers to help Christian with his boat,
Fixing it up because it's very old. She thought no one like, used it.
Christian is one of the only people that seems To not look at Elyse with a bunch of pity,
Cause everyone else seems to do that Since she's gone mute.
And she's so tired of either being just politely ignored, Or people constantly being sympathetic.
She just wants people to stop. He just befriends her, they get along.
They work on the boat. I really loved the book because of Elyse's
Her words, her ideas, her poems... And I really like the struggles of how sometimes
Bad things happen, Whether it's like a medical condition or an accident.
Sometimes things can't go back to normal,
And it's hard. She's trying to, she's figuring that out away from home,
She's away from her family who she misses.
So The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, Five stars from me.
I really loved it. I didn't expect to love it near as much as I did.
I mean, of course I read it, So I thought it was interesting...
But it's better, It's even better than it already sounds.
I highly recommend it, It's a perfect book for summer.
And it takes place in Oregon, so it's like Northwest-beach kinda summer.
The summer we know about. So if you're looking for something sorta close
To home, this is a good one for your Summer reads before summer ends.
I hope you enjoy it if you decide to read it.
Thank you, bye!
