"God Will Provide" Which means a strong symbolic violence
I mean, we univerlize up and make justice, based on the opinion
of a population's part, a small one as we understand it.
They wanted to make abortion legal, in what way?
Thirty years... we fought so women won't be
submited to court laws. So they didn't have to be ashamed of themselves.
So they could even decide, eventually, about doing abortion or not.
Its obvious that I, as a Catholic, am always on the life side.
But like I said, I'm no one to judge anybody.
It's a sign of the woman entrance on Portugal's civilization
and leaving the corruption way, well...
the danger of getting sick, of getting infertile and eventually the danger of death.
Who decided to get an abortion have to do it illegally
and became vulnerable to a penalty.
Which may imply, and happened in some cases... could imply prison.
Excommunication! But there's always a way to mend it.
There's a forgiveness and redemption process.
It's like this, the terrestrial life is known by priests. But about woman's life - *** Mary
she's the one that knows about our struggles.
And *** Mary had the right to choose, because in the angel's appearance
he asked her about being the mother of God's child.
And she said yes, but she could always renounced to it.
We wanted to work the abortion matter,
maintaining a bigger discussion
like liberty, education and security.
A woman puted by the question of cutting down a part of her own body,
puts herself in the center of a strong fisical violence, emotional, social and ideological that, for us, inspires care.
On the other side, abortion entails a formative and moral hard demand.
Without which we take the risc of becoming a society
that distorts one of the woman enchantments,
creating life inside of them.
I consider it a fair law
because it reaches the possibility of that discussed choice.
There are always been the same alternetives, today we have better condicions.
They abort using spring of parsley, crochet's needle
I mean, they caused bleeding
to expelling the placenta of their own body,
causing one conscious abortion.
Better conditions to choose, but the alternatives were always the same,
Because there are still a large amout of women that are making iligal abortions.
A lot of Doctors that refused to perform an abortion
on the National Health Care,
they did it on private clinics.
It's an advance on the matter of tolerance, diversity.
I'm against abortion but am also against women's penalty.
Because I'm always on the life side.
Those who are against
the right to choose, those who are against abortion,
also oposes *** education
and the contraceptive methodes.
They defend what they consider natural methods, but what is natural?
Need to be discussed.
From the moment of conception there is life.
It's not a baby and it is not a child,
it's a fetus, it's a project.
Definitely, no matter who says other wise,
there is life.
The law allows, the choice possibility for woman.
There is no law,
even if it represents an advance, resolves
deeper matters.
A woman that have decide to get an abortion
by the law, if fulfill the requirements,
by the legal time, don't have any judicial penalty
nothing invalidates that this woman doesn't suffers from a social penalty.
Woman had nobody to talk to about it.
It's that person's conscience
that needs to make that decision, that is the woman.
Ultimately that's the conscience that needs to be respected,
it's the conscience who doens't need to be armed,
that's the conscience who can't be prosecuted.
I understand that according to our
idiologic and values belives, we could have an opinion about the matter.
Decisions are always considered, but not by me.
Micro power
he'd talked about the microfisics of power
I mean the power that as an effect in the person's body.
That is the target of opression.
Afterwards they are continiously alone
because the ashamed burde was very strong at that time.
In contexts that are particularly hostile to a social rule
if it is committed, even though it's not considered a crime,
she could eventualy be
a motive to sistematic exclusion, which leads, for example
to that person outcast, which means, in the limit
it's social death. And what's social death?
It's cutting the edge with the world
It's the end of the social connections that this person was in.
In our short-film "God Will Provide"
Maria is a woman that lives all alone in up-country.
Maria was *** at home, the last stronghold of her loneliness.
Her sanctuary as now became her calvary.
We've put the story thirty years ago by the time of the first abortion law proposal.
Where it was made the Nation Health Care.
There were built highways, colleges.
Thirty years we fought to approach our up-country.
Now the number's cold justice says that health and education are superfluous.
It's not worth the investment.
Violent, really violent.
We shoot the interviews separately
without previous knowledge of the intervinients answers
