I have my dear friend Google translate there on my computer.
Let me begin.
Hello people of Youtube and welcom to a guest video on Polyglot Progress.
Today we shall speak Norwegian, and I am a bit nervous to make this video.
But it is very good for me to practice Norwegian this way.
Also, I think I am the first guest on Polyglot Progress.
So thanks a lot to Matt and Abi.
Important things first.
My name is Tom, I am 20 years old and I come from the Netherlands.
But now I live in Oslo, Norway.
I am an intern here in Oslo, at a company that makes critical communication equipment.
And that is equipment like radio systems and public address systems.
And I am working there on their marketing and communication department.
Things I do there are making videos, taking photos and graphics design.
And it is a lot of fun because I love to do that kind of thing in my spare time as well.
The next thing I want to speak about is that I'm learning Norwegian on Duolingo.
And I am now at level 13 or 14.
I also have several Norwegian books, like Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone.
This is the first book in the Harry Potter series.
And my girlfriend gave this to me.
Yes, my girlfriend is Norwegian.
I got to know her here in Norway last year.
And our relationship began 6 months ago.
As you can hear, I speak with a 'scarring r', instead of a ordinary r.
I do so because I just cannot say an ordinary r in sentences.
In Dutch people use an ordinary r as well, but I have never learned to use an ordinary r.
So in Dutch I speak with an American r.
And in Norwegian I speak with a scarring r,
instead of a [rolling r]
The scarring r is a thing people use in some accents in south-west Norway.
But not here in Oslo.
So I'm weird.
Very, very weird.
But we knew that already.
The last thing I want to talk about is why it's so difficult for me to understand Norwegians.
I find it so difficult to understand Norwegians because Norwegians talk very, very...
soon.
Quick.
Soon?
Quick.
I find it so difficult to understand Norwegians because they speak very, very quick.
And I cannot understand Norwegian words as quickly as Norwegians speak.
And it will take a bit more time before I can understand Norwegians well.
Good. So that's that.
It took me 23 minutes to film this.
But I think I'm done here for now.
So thank you very much for watching this video.
You can find me on Twitter, and on Youtube too.
Don't forget to 'like' this video.
And we shall see each other very, very soon.
Thanks a lot, and good bye.
