Hi everyone. This is Kitty Kross. I'd like to talk to you today about a
little subject that's
swarming about with a great deal of controversy these days.
A little series that we have all come to know as Twilight.
Yes. I'm going there.
Now, this isn't going to be a critique of any sort because I'm going to be
putting up something like that at a later date.
I want to address a particular subject at this time.
Now before I do so, let me mention that I have actually taken the time to read the
first book simply to give it a chance so that I could not be accused of NOT giving it
a chance.
And just this last weekend I spent the night over a friend's house and actually took the
time to watch both films. Much to my chagrin.
Now both of my two best friends are very big Twilight fans and one of them in
particular seemed extremely put off by the fact that I was laughing through the
majority of the first film.
After we'd finished watching the movies, we got into a bit of the heated debate on
the series,
but there is one thing she said to me in particular that really stuck in my mind.
And she said to me - and I quote -
"If you don't like it, change it. Write a better book."
Now I don't know about you, but I'm personally taking a statement like that
as a challenge
because I happen to be a writer in my own right; Though I don't have anything
published.
But I do have a story that I've been working on for a good number of years.
I started on it when I was fourteen; I'm in my late twenties, so you do the math.
But, when I get to thinking about it, I also took notice of the fact that in the many years
I have been online, I've noticed there is a great number of great writers out there.
I've seen some real works of art that have hardly gotten any notice.
For God's sake, I've seen fanfiction that's ten to twenty to fifty times better than
anything Stephanie Meyer has written.
So, what I'm doing here (if you're watching this video and listening to what I'm saying),
I'm issuing a Call to Arms, of sorts.
If you're a writer
and you have an idea that you think would really make it out there or if
it's just something that you feel you would really want people to see,
I urge you to write it down.
Put pen to paper;
Write it on the computer; Use a *** typewriter if that's what you have available.
But write it, get it made, and try your best to get it published.
Because if Stephanie Meyer can make a mint off of an atrocious piece of crap
like Twilight, I don't see why the rest of us can't do any better.
So like I said - If you're a writer, get to work kids because, God knows, there's a
great number of you out there who have the talent. I've seen it for myself.
So let's get to it, people. Let's not waste any more time.
