>>DAVE WEST: I'm Dave West. I'm with
the Electrical Power Technology Program.
I'm one of the instructors for
the lineman training part of it.
This is the pole climbing training
set area here. And the rest of the yard
will actually be the distribution
training on how to construct the lines
and how they work. And it's actually
a simulated distribution system.
This is one trade you're not going to
learn in a book or in a classroom setting.
This is their classroom and this is
where they'll learn to do what's
important in this trade.
>>KELLY PETERSON: My name is Kelly Peterson.
I'm Spanish Fork City's
Electrical Superintendent
and I am the IPSA chairman for all the
municipalities here in the State of Utah,
part of Nevada, and part of Idaho that
have their own electric utilities.
What we have going on is
we have an apprentice program through
Salt Lake Community College where
they are assisting us in training of our
electrical linemen, our electric meter men,
and our electric substation technician.
Today we're out here doing
apprenticeship testing
where we have guys doing their
written and practical test.
And the stuff going on behind us
is apprentice linemen doing their
practical tests, proving that they
have the skills to move on to the
next level of their apprenticeship.
>>WEST: Students are,
sounds like their all eager,
they look eager, and liking it.
