Hi, my name is Molly Mackey and I’m with Expert Village. This one’s pretty heavy;
also we have heavy edge wear at the top of the dust jacket. You can see the white that
runs along the edge where the color is missing so that’s described as edge wear and you
want to mention where it is, the top, or the bottom of the jacket. And that’s a very
common thing you’ll find in dust jackets and again these are for collectible dust jackets.
If a book is only worth three or four dollars it’s not that important to go into heavy
detail. But for collectibles, more collectible books, ten dollars or more you definitely
want to describe these things accurately. This is what’s called, commonly called a
closed tear, it’s not a missing piece, it’s closed, so that’s the way you would describe
it, this one is about a quarter inch and again it’s good to give the measurement so we
have a quarter inch closed tear to the upper right portion of the DJ is how that would
be described. One other flaw for a DJ is when you see an angle cut out of the front like
this, this is called price clip. What normally happens is that there was a price that was
printed on this section of the jacket but someone probably snipped it to remove it for
a gift or something of that nature, but it is important and it’s definitely an issue
so you want to describe that as a price clipped DJ.
