Japanese culture emphasizes
harmony, discipline, peace of
mind, and natural beauty.
The Japanese language is
composed of Hiragana,
Katakana, and many kanji.
Hiragana is the base of
the Japanese language.
Katakana is used for
words from other languages
or sounds. Kanji has meaning.
As Hiragana, Katakana,
and Kanji are mixed in sentences,
it is very difficult
to learn Japanese.
In addition, there are
many homonyms due to its few vowels.
Therefore, it is very
important to know the meaning
of kanji so you can
differentiate homonyms.
Well, let’s see how
my students are going
to learn Japanese…..
Japanese Holy Grail:
Learning Kanji & homonyms
These 4 kanji are pronounced
the same or with a different pitch accent.
However, basically they sound like “hashi”.
Chopsticks. A pitch accent on “ha.”
Edge. A pitch accent on “***”
Bridge. A pitch accent on “***”
It is difficult! Ouch….
