Hello and welcome to My Weekly Geekery, the show in which I talk about what's been going on in my
geeky world over the past seven days.
Top story today is that the nominations for the 2014
Academy Awards have been announced. Best picture nominations go to American
Hustle, Captain Phillips,
Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Nebraska,
Philomena, and Twelve Years a Slave. There are directing nominations for
David O. Russell, Alfonso Cuaron, Alexander Payne, Steve McQueen,
and Martin Scorsese. I'm not going to list all of the Best Actor and Best Supporting
Actor nominees but some
are Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chiwetel Ejiofor,
Sandra Bullock. Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender,
Sally Hawkins, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Link to the full list of nominations below. The Oscars ceremony will be held on March the 2nd.
It has been announced that Under the Dome series 2 begins on CBS in the US on
June 30th. I am ambivalent on series 1, it had some good characters, but
they also had some really annoying characters, and it has a good plot
but it also had some really annoying plots. But we will be returning to Chester's Mill later
on this year. A new E4 drama pilot called
ALT has been commissioned. It stars Gethin Anthony,Renly Baratheon from
Game of Thrones, and Craig Roberts from Submarine and Being Human,
and also that Killers video with the candles,
candles on their heads, candles.
It is about two friends who are transported to a parallel universe where they
encounter different versions of themselves.
If the pilot is successful a full series will follow.
It sounds promising, good cast. The 60 minute pilot airs in spring.
In other sort of Game of Thrones actors related news,
Natalie Dormer a wonderful new hairstyle for her role as Cressida
in Mockingjay, the two part Hunger Games finale. She has a sort of half shaved head
thing going on. I think she looks good. And finally, the National Television Awards are held in
the UK tonight.
The NTA's are the one voted for by the British public. There are nominations for Doctor Who
in best drama, and Matt Smith in best drama performance.
Of course, last year Colin Morgan won the award for Best Drama performance,
in a great day for fans of Merlin. So in conclusion,
the NTAs are tonight, the Oscars are later, new shows are coming and old shows
are returning. This has been My Weekly Geekery.
