this will be a ribbed crochet headband
using a size H/5mm crochet hook
4-ply yarn
attach the slip knot to the crochet hook
wrap the loose end over the main strand
take the loop, wrap it over the main strand
put your hook below the center strand, back up the opposite side
that creates the slip knot
we will work 14 foundation half double crochet
make a chain of two
wrap the yarn over your hook
put it through the second chain from the hook
wrap the yarn over, pull through once
wrap the yarn over, pull through one loop
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
that completes the first foundation half double crochet
wrap the yarn over your hook
put the hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through once
wrap the yarn over, pull through one loop
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
that completes the second foundation single crochet
the foundation stitch is worked vertically, going down from the crochet hook
when you are ready to use it, you will work horizontally
wrap the yarn over your hook
put the hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through once
wrap the yarn over, pull through one loop
there are three loops on the hook
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
wrap the yarn over your hook
put your hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over your hook
pull through the two loops once
wrap the yarn over your hook
pull through one loop
wrap the yarn over your hook
pull through all three loops
wrap the yarn over your hook
put the hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through one loop
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
wrap the yarn over your hook
put the hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through both loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through once
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
continue with the foundation half double crochet until you have completed 14
I have completed 14 foundation half double crochet
Now I want to chain
and turn
work 14 full foundation half double crochet
the chain is just the step up to the next level
wrap the yarn over the hook
on the back side you will see a loop
we will be working through the loop
typically we would go through the top like this
you can see the two loops right here
some people refer to them as the V shape
we are not working through them
we are working in the loop to the bottom of those two
insert your hook through this loop
wrap the yarn over, pull through once
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three
move on to the next loop
we will do a total of 14
there's two
three
four
five
six
seven
flip it to front
you can see how working in the back loop pushes these two loops to the front
creating a ribbing look
creating a rib or a little ridge
and this is the effect we are looking for
continue across the row until you have completed 14
now I am working on my 14th stitch
this one will be done a little differently
put the hook through the two loops on the edge
wrap the yarn over, pull through
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three
Showing the stitch one more time
wrap the yarn over
there are two loops on the edge
put the hook below the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through the two loops
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
now chain
turn
continue across the row
working in the loop below the stitch
continue for a total of 46 rows
this is the ribbing with 11 rows
I have finished all my rows
now I want to cut off a long tail
we will be sewing the two ends together
I have threaded my tapestry needle
align the edges together
sew the first stitch
together like this
secure with a knot
pick up the loop behind the stitch
this is the same loop we worked the stitches in
align with the stitch on the opposite side
continue all the way across
sewing through the same stitch
it will be pushing the stitches at the top of the stitch to the frint
this will continue to form the ribbing
put the hook through this loop
these two loops are pushed up to the front
sew through the stitch on the opposite side
pick up this loop
it pushes the two loops to the front
insert the needle through the stitch on the opposite side
continue across until the seam is sewn shut
We are at the edge
sew right through the two stitches
make a knot
this is what it looks like on the opposite side
I like to make a couple of knots, make as many as you need
sew in the tail
weaving between the stitches
I like to go over, then under a loop
going back in the opposite direction
cut off the tail
this completes the headband
