alright african-american families are suing the lower merion school district in pennsylvania
because ad they claim that that the school district wud of wrongly classify black students
ads uh...
special needs or special education students
so they would basically put them in law lower level classes
when there was a absolutely no need for that at all
now we thought about this in the context of education before and it
yeah expectations are enormous and studies have borne the sound we have high expectations
to students do better even if you lose do random i_t_t_ grandsons banana high grades
a little or the low classes or whatever might be
so when the states at
if they'd or do they based on race and put them in the lower classes with a remedial
or the special ed classes
you're doing and great great and yes it's it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because
if you're tall that you are you're not smart enough to take even be
in regular curriculum that when you and special needs classes
well then you think you're dumb and you are more likely to be a negotiator so this is
what happened in this case right
and he knows the parents are arguing that the school district in this as a way to
segregate the schools
so all of the white sea that's really interesting
now he comes anew birgit of saturday's exactly aliquots of course a judge at turned them
down initially for a great number of reasons to look at it
i don't know if it's a class action lawsuit i they started act that the loss it was actually
filed at the class action lawsuit back in july two thousand seven
and you know it's eight families and eves family has a very specific case
so the judge told them look since you guys each have specific cases it's better that
you don't file this is a class action lawsuit
uh... cell day they decided to re filed a lawsuit in a different way not a class action
right and he said to the administrative hearings for as a setter etcetera
and i looked and all that cuz i thought you know what those could be good points the center
we know at the end of reading several articles on this an inch of just reading articles are
not the judge the judge of course has more information but i got the sense that now they
should keep it as a class action lawsuit because when we when you come individually it's hard
to prove that it's based on race because this is one individual case but when you have a
whole
class of people that are coming in u_s_a_
okay it and i'd be in class in in the legal term
uh... saying hey
what that what their system that we do it
i think that's the more relevant issue here
and and we don't know if they're good systematically if they are
that's terrible
right question sample
and you know of course love the lord marian's marion school district has come out there
like none and now we're not doing anything of that nature we're trying to help
minorities we're trying to help the black students by placing them in the right classes
and making sure that they keep up with the curriculum is all bs and i'd totally by the
argument that they're doing this as a way to segregate the school's right and look we're
not of course without a real courtroom right partly prejudging here is so you have to see
all the facts
but having said that he looks like the parents of a compelling case based on
what what we see here and and look here's another realm of that was discussed articles
but i think that struck me
they want to improve their great straight the school dot that's their performances because
they're all getting judge the teachers are the principles are etcetera etcetera
if they can takes take a certain percentage of the other special event
you see what i'm saying yes and that increases the the scores
of the others
now i don't know if they did that in this case but that's another reason but they might
be more of a did do this
uh... but the whole idea of chevron kids in the special ed when they're not
special ed students is horrendous
