Hello everyone, and welcome
to my video!
In this video, I will explain to you;
What is the ChatLog mod,
How does it work,
and how do you have use of it.
Basically, ChatLog is a mod that logs
chat to a file on your computer.
And so you can find it later
without having to take screenshots
of chat, which tends to take a lot of space.
But, when I made this mod, I used to
take screenshots of chat for no reason,
because I thought that maybe if
someone wanted to see the chat later,
I would have evidence of it, and I would...
just be able to find anything,
any funny quotes and things like that from chat.
But it has its disadvantages to use screenshots.
Well, installing the ChatLog mod is really easy,
you just download the mod from the link,
the Minecraft Forums topic which should
be on your screen right now,
or in the description.
And you install it in your minecraft.jar file.
You do not need ModLoader or Forge
or anything like that, it will work
as-is without any mod APIs.
We'll just see how the mod works,
going to Multiplayer,
find your favorite server, and you can
connect to it.
You will see a bunch of chat is
being shown in your chat right now.
And all this will be logged to your
.minecraft folder, in a new folder
called "chatlogs". That says, the year,
the month and the date, you can open this
with your favorite web browser.
Like, I'm going to show opening it in Chrome,
it looks like this.
So, well, not only do the chat
others write get logged, as well, anything
that is sent from the server will get logged.
If I for example type "yes" in response
to crazycool's question,
if I can get this message sent, because
apparently the Internet connetion is a bit
slow right now.
And, it will also be logged,
if you go back to Chrome or whatever you use,
and when you refresh it you will see
my message has also been sent.
You've probably also noticed the timestamps,
on the side here which is basically when the
message was received.
And it logs in colors. That's fantastic,
and.. well.. I.. I did that, because colors
are awesome. And.. that's pretty much.. a fact.
But if you don't like colors... heh...
So, there are more things that you can do here,
you can configure the mod, if I disconnect,
and quit right now, I will go back to
the .minecraft folder, there will also be
a folder called "config". If you open it,
there will be a file called ChatLog.properties.
You double click it, and you open it
in Notepad, or another text editor program,
it will say a line at the top saying the date
of which the config file was saved,
which was last year apparently,
because I'm recording this in 2013.
For information about what all these parameters mean,
there is currently just one here;
you can go to the topic on Minecraft Forums,
which should also be on your screen right now.
Or, use the same link in the description.
I can for example change on this "max-logs",
it will check how many logs are there when the
mod is.. the Minecraft is..
When Minecraft has started up, it will
check how many logs there are in the Minecraft
chatlog folder; if there are more than, say, 10,
it will delete the oldest files so there would
be only 10 files left. And then it will
start logging chat.
So... is...
It is configurable, for help on all the parameters,
you should go to the... Minecraft Forum topic
dedicated to this mod.
Now, some of these advantages;
I told you that screenshots take a lot of space,
and indeed they do.
Take for example this screenshot,
which I took of a player list and the chat on
a server, umm... It looks nice, of course,
but it does take up a lot of space - it says,
well, this is in Norwegian, but it does say
333 kilobytes, which is about a third of a
megabyte - compared to the chatlog, which is
11 kilobytes. So I could play for
at least a few hours to get the same size
of the log, but with far more data.
So, the mod works like that, and...
thank you a lot for watching this video,
I hope to see you later, and..
maybe if you like this mod, you can
download it from the link, in the description,
or that has been on the screen
countless times by now, and I.. see you guys later.
As I said. I tend to repeat myself
for some odd reason, and well... that's it.
Have a good day.
