The world and conceptions change ,
technology evolves.
In the same way, arts and means of expression evolve.
We visited a place , where this change is well-known.
A place, where people create and express themselves digitally,
in school of Fine Arts.
First, we talked with Manolis Kazakis, a graduate of school of Fine Arts.
My name is Manolis Kazakis and I am 28 years old.
I was accepted in Fine Arts at 2007 and I graduated this year.
I worked on multimedia ,
and I specialized in photo editing. I have taken a variety of pictures from detailed pictures to more general in landscapes
and my goal through the montage is to give in the public a more surreal effect.
If you find the right structure between to painting and multimedia
you can have a successful combination and as a result to have a strong image that combines art with subject.
The key to the whole case is to have the idea and pass creatively your message to the public.
Coming up, we met with Alexandros Voutsas, coordinator professor of the Photography Lab.
Iíve been working at the School of Fine Arts since December 2000.
Until 2004-2005, the bulk of the curriculum was invariably analogic.
Year after year, especially in the last 8 years, deducting the time I work here,
the digital medium becomes increasingly present in our lives, in our teaching;
for instance, when we share the theory and the techniques etc., the theory remains the same.
Neither does the theory of light nor the usage or the art of photography alter, just because the medium is subject to changes.
The medium may have changed to its digital and analogic parts,
but itís a decision which lies on each oneís hands;
in what way one wants to express the meaning and the creation which came up with and made.
This is something I tell students I interact with,
that we get a mass storage memory card,
have it inserted in the camera,
and the ´anti-aircraftsª begin,
we shoot endlessly hoping for the best.
And then weíll exclaim: ´What a wonderful picture I took! ª
Thatís not how it really works.
Namely, unless you put your heart and soul into it,
or without research and devotion of time
to have this endeavor firmly settled down inside you,
and most importantly, without investment
not only of our being but of our knowledge and of what we want to capture,
then the outcomes will be far more superficial.
The last few years, the ëímultimedia Labíí has been taking place at the school of fine arts.
Manthos Santorinaios talked to us about it.
Hello, my name is manthos santorinaios and I have been teaching this course since 2000.
My teaching subject is multimedia
but it doesnít mean anything because it is constantly changing.
this lab consists of many teachers
and thatís because the multimedia section has many levels.
while other people teach video art, sound editing, computer programming,
I teach a specific lesson
named
which I find very important.
we begin from narration, which is very basic for humanity
we continue with scenario a specific kind of narration,
based on techonoligal media.
Then, we get in touch with ëímulti-scenarioí.
The interactive media demand an other kind of narration,
like a tree of ëíquestions and answersíí; so the next stop is multi scenario and the text needed.
and then comes programming,
where I try to show to every artist that programming is a kind of narration.
Imagination and insight are needed
as well as giving the right reaction orders to the computer.
this course is combined with programming, sound and image coming together to help the students work.
Panagiotis Grizos, an undergraduate student in his final year of Fine Arts studies ,
shared with us his experience in the digital art and the multimedia practice.
My name is Panagiotis Grizos and I am now attending the fifth and last year at the School of Fine Arts.
An artist is someone who works with ideas.
To make his idea a real project, he will use the means that best fit his intentions.
After all, painting and technology are similar and they advance simultaneously.
An idea of mine is to organize an animation seminar,
mostly about stop motion and plasticine.
Iíve definitely learned a lot from my experience. You can expand your horizons,
because there are all these applications that can only be used in digital form and not with the traditional means.
. It definitely helps you to think things differently, even the materials you use.
For example, we used plasticine,
a material everyone can use, even the kids in kindrergarden.
We used it to create a video, a stop motion.
Frame to frame, we photographed the motion.
It is some kind of false motion, an animation.
A lot is being lost in the transfer, like the atmosphere of the painting.
The swirls and all the details appear very different
when you see the real painting, you can understand the drawing process.
The painting is being completely altered when put through video or camera filters.
the new digital civilization has caused huge changes in our lives.
the way we live, the way we fall in love, the way we dream, the way we work has changed.
in my opinion, we can talk about a revolution, a silent revolution which we do not understand,
referring to Arts .
New tools exist, new iconic and very powerful ëígroundíí
is being created called ëíthe internetíí
according to me, the artists and the intellectuals must enter and dwell in this world.
MULTIMEDIA LAB COURSE
well kids, here you can see an exercise
by the artists at the undergraduate course.
what you see is a graphic project of a student, which she digitalized.
She has chosen many pieces of her work and has put them into a cube, because the exercise was about making a digital cube with many functions.
This girl has chosen her own work.
She has cut ii into pieces and each piece represents a different meaning and by reaching every piece the user passes to another one.
Practically it is a three-dimensional , iconic, artistic project.
-Does anyone have a query?
-Can the tour be done via mouse?(
- It can be done via joystick, mouse and tracker, namely by putting a tracker
above our heads so that it can capture every movement of ours.
These processes are incorporated according to your needs.
In this case we work via joystick.
So lets go inside the lab.
