This ship represent the culmination of the "Destiny" project evolution and it has had great success. The project was born in Trieste, in the Fincantieri Study Design, by the engineer Maurizio Cergol, in the early 90s. Then the ship was built twenty miles from here in Monfalcone shipyard and was the first ship in the world to be more than 100,000 tons of gross tonnage. The success of this prototype has been in the following sister ships that were built by Fincantieri shipyards in Monfalcone, Marghera (Venice) and Sestri Ponente (Genoa). The sister ships have been realized in 18 exemplar, including a Costa one and two Carnival ones. This ship, Costa Favolosa, is another upgrade of the "Destiny" project, which is one of Fincantieri strengths: having a successful project and being able to refresh it to give customers a newer and newer product that can attack the market. This fabulous ship, Favolosa, was designed in Trieste, built in Marghera (Venice) and christened today in this ancient shipbuilding traditions city (Trieste). This is a very important event for Trieste because a ceremony of this kind has never been held in this city.
Patrizia, you are a journalist of the cruise sector, so you followed not only the history of ships but also the history of the ports and I know you worked for Civitavecchia (Rome) port authority. What is the most amazing thing to admire in Trieste and in its port, and in this absolutely unique square?
Italian destinations are all unique and are an opportunity for cruises and tourism industry, because every port visited by these great floating cities, offers a cultural hinterland of great historical and artistic value. In fact, Italy is the favorite destination for tourists arriving in the Mediterranean: 5 million cruise passengers in Italy and 2,4 million only in the port of Civitavecchia, which is the first in Italy and which is on a par with Barcelona. This numbers are bound to increase because cruises don't know slump.
