How to Create Accessible Course Material for Microsoft Word 2010.
Part 7: Running the Accessibility Checker. Unless you are converting your document to a
PDF, and you have Adobe Pro on your computer, this will be the last step.
Generally, with screen reading software, Microsoft Word is one of the most accessible
files, and is preferred over Adobe documents. To run the accessibility checker, you want to
save the document as a Word 2010 document.
You then want to go to File, Info, choose Check for Issues, and Check Accessibility.
I have created a document that has multiple accessibility issues to show you how you can
fix them. On the side, it will show you all the errors that are throughout the page.
If you click on the error, it will tell you in the additional information why it needs to be fixed,
and how to fix it. Any errors that you have run across, should have been gone through in the
tutorials. If there is something that was not in the tutorials, it will show you how to fix it.
Once you have gone through and fixed all of these errors, you will have an accessible
document that is ready for students' use.
