One of the challenges with today's servers
is getting the server up and running,
finding the latest firmware and drivers,
and knowing that all the different pieces work together
can be a real challenge.
For example, if the disk firmware doesn't match the OS drivers
you could experience bugs and performance problems.
Many different pieces come into play when you set up your server:
installing drivers, updating firmware,
configuring RAID, and provisioning the OS.
All of these steps must be done
before you can start using the server.
We've solved these challenges in the new X3-2 line of servers
with Oracle System Assistant.
Oracle System Assistant is an innovative tool
that is built into every new x86 server.
It provides step by step assistance with configuring the server,
updating firmware and drivers,
and provisioning the OS.
Once you've completed the steps with Oracle System Assistant
the server is ready for use.
We designed Oracle System Assistant to be easy and straightforward.
Just press F9 when the server is booting.
You will need a keyboard, monitor and mouse
or you can use the remote console feature of Oracle ILOM.
For Oracle System Assistant to work
you'll need to configure the network settings.
You can then use it to check
for any new software for the server.
Oracle System Assistant connects back to Oracle
using your MyOracle Support account
and downloads any updates available for your server.
This is where we really start to see the innovation
that went into Oracle System Assistant.
For example, the firmware for Oracle ILOM and BIOS,
OS drivers and other system firmware
like option cards and disk drivers come as a single download,
a bundle that has been engineered and tested to work together.
Oracle System Assistant figures out the right combination
for your server so you don't have to.
Oracle System Assistant is where all the parts come together.
In addition to communicating with Oracle ILOM and BIOS,
Oracle System Assistant can configure the storage subsystem,
it can detect the storage configuration,
and configure RAID for all the disks in the system.
You can use Oracle System Assistant to provision a supported OS
like Oracle Linux, Oracle VM, Red Hat, Suse and Windows.
By using Oracle System Assistant you can be sure
that the right OS drivers are installed
for each hardware component.
Setting up a server has never been easier.
Oracle System Assistant makes managing your servers simpler,
reducing your IT costs.
