The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the sighthound family. The AKC recognises it as
a toy dog in the toy group. They are from Egypt, just like their larger cousin, the Greyhound.
They are called Italian Greyhounds because of their popularity in Italy. Unlike their
larger sighthound cousins, they aren't used for hunting. They are a decorative companion
dog. Go out and buy your IG (Italian Greyhound)

Get your dog any necessary vaccinations.. Your vet will let you know when a puppy will
need certain vaccinations. Train the dog..
Start out with basic commands. These are the most important ones. Save the tricks for later.
Housebreaking is the hardest part!. Use the crate method. Leave the dog in a crate
while at work or at night. Let him/her out every few hours. While at home, let the dog
out. Don't let him/her eliminate in the house. If caught, firmly scold her/him and take him/her
outside. If not caught in the act, don't scold. Just clean up the mess. If this method doesn't
work, try paper or litter box training. BRUSH THOSE TEETH!.
!!! Italian Greyhounds are prone to dental issues and should have DAILY tooth brushing!
Lean the dog on a couch arm and keep him/her in place. Open the mouth and brush using a
circular motion. Once you have brushed every tooth, have the dog drink some water to get
the toothpaste out of his/her mouth. Feed Greenies dental chews to help keep plaque
from forming. Walk the dog twice everyday..
Have him/her walk beside or behind you. Feed a few small meals at different times
during the day, preferably after you eat.. Make sure you feed a high quality brand. Solid
Gold Just a Wee Bit is a good choice! Dress your dog up!.
Buy a few simple sweaters for your dog to wear during cold weather. They don't need
to be flashy and unusual. Just as long as your dog doesn't freeze to death.
Bathe your dog.. Put a towel at the bottom of your sink. Fill
the sink with warm water. Mix some doggie shampoo with water so it washes off better.
Put your dog in the sink. Lather the soap on. Then rinse. Dry the dog well and give
him/her a treat. Clean the ears and clip the nails..
Your vet can show you how. Thank you for watching!
