With hundreds of thousands people riding our trains each day, we know trains can get a
little crowded. New trains are on the way, but until they
arrive, common courtesy can help to make everyone's ride a little easier.
Riders tend to favor the middle cars, so you might find more space in the first or last
car. Before boarding, form two lines behind the
yellow strip at the black door marker. Once your train arrives, allow those getting off
the train to exit before you enter. Fill empty spaces towards the middle of the
car, in the aisle, away from the door. This space is often left empty while areas near
the doors are packed with people. If you're standing and carrying a big backpack,
place it on the floor, between your feet. It really makes a difference.
If you score a seat, fantastic, but keep feet and belongings feet off of the empty seats
so someone else can sit down. And if you notice another rider needs your
seat more, be sure to give up. Bike riders: if there are many bikes on your
car, stack them and please don't block the door or the aisle way with your bike.
Finally, don't EVER hold the door open. Jamming the door will take the entire train out of
service. Everyone will have to get off and wait for the next one.
Together, these small acts of courtesy go a long way!
