Welcome to the student's survival guide. This video was to introduce students to SKYPE, a
voice over IP program that students can use to communicate
and collaborate with one another in a variety of ways. SKYPE is a messaging.
program that allows users to chat,
call videoconference and share files between users.
Students can use Skype to share files, instant message one another,
and hold group meetings or discussions. Here's how to get started
go to www.skype.com
to download skype for your computer. You can also gets SKYPE for every major mobile
operating system. Make sure you select the right
desktop operating system when you download the installation file.
SKYPE also offers a premium version where you can call landlines and other phone
numbers directly from your computer,
but this tutorial is only going to talk about the functions of the free version of
the program.
And all done, it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes for state to install on
your computer
Once SKYPE is finished downloading, have to login
or create an account before you can start playing around with its features.
if this is your first time logging into Skype, or at least first time Skype has been
open on this computer,
it will run you through a few quick setup questions. It is going to test your audio
and video if your computer has a microphone
or a web camera installed. You can sign in to Skype with your Microsoft account
character or create a new account
in just a couple minutes by filling out an online form. Once you're logged in,
you can search for contacts by User Name or email address
by clicking here and entering it into the text box. Once you have added a contact,
you can send instant messages back and forth as well as share files,
voice chat, and video conference. It's a great way to collaborate with your fellow
students on projects
when you can't meet in person. One way Skype makes communicating easier
is the ability to set up group messaging. Click here on the main menu,
or just select add group when you're in a conversation with the user already.
Here you can just click and drag right from your contact list
into the group. All of the group members for a project can contribute to the
conversation at the same time, and
even if users are offline they'll receive messages from the group conversation
the next time they log back into Skype. This makes sure that all the members of
a group project stay informed and organized
outside of your typical classroom time. Students can swap files and schedule
meetings with ease.
As you can see, Skype is a really useful tool for staying in contact with your
classmates,
which can help you stay on top of projects and assignments.
Thanks for watching!
