Is the slant of the sunlight different today Or is it the changing of hues
Of the grasses and weeds, and the leaves on the trees
To the summer’s heat, paying their dues? Though the calendar says it’s a late August
day, There’s a feeling of hope in the air;
For the cool autumn wind that the north country sends
To the thirsty land, soon will appear. The merciless sun has for days upon end
Beat down upon pasture and field. But the wildflowers know that the days quickly
go Until summertime’s end is revealed.
I sense there’s a change in the seasons today,
That the splendors of fall are at hand, When a red harvest moon, to appear very soon,
Will bring autumn’s relief to the land. So I’m looking ahead to that season I love,
When geese on the wing grace the dawn. And when late summer haze yields to glorious
days – After the summer is gone.
