I: The previous caller, Aarti asked two questions that what could be the
consequences of changing jobs frequently on our career and she has a 20
year old son who doesn't like to study but has a lot of talent in other things.
Sameer: I feel her first question wasn't about how changing jobs can have effect
on our career, it was that youngsters' behaviour keeps changing.
I: What could be the effect of that on the career?
Sameer: Till a particular age that is normal, that is what I feel. The answer to
this is that if each student or each girl or boy becomes aware of their responsibility
towards their own life, then how much ever they change, it doesn't make a lot of
difference because they know what they should do and what they shouldn't do.
But if the parents keep taking the responsibility of their lives and of making
decisions about their life, then this can be very dangerous.
2nd that their son doesn't have interest in studies - Why don't 90% of the boys or
girls take interest in their studies? Because they don't like what they are
doing. Once they start enjoying what they are doing, I don't think there's any need to
be after them, or to motivate them. See how difficult it is for children to memorize
all the things they are taught in school/college but have we ever seen a
boy or a girl finding it difficult to memorize the lyrics of a movie song?
"Kaho na pyaar hai", "Arre what was the next line, I forgot" - this doesn't happen
because they are interested in that, they like it.
That's why I feel that if we encourage and help our children to find out what is it that
interests them and once they find their area of interest, then there won't be any
need to be after them. If he is not interested in studies, then you should ask
him as to what he likes to do but only tell him that he is already 20 years old and
so, the decisions that he makes from here on, he will be responsible for them and
the results that he gets from his decisions even that responsibility he will
have to take. We won't take any responsibility. Once he understands this I
feel Aarti will not have to worry about him anymore.
