welcome back to twenty twelve michael sure with you we're joined now on the
uh... in the day after the new hampshire primary by a concord monitor reporter
political reporter cerebral ammo sarath thanks for doing the time to be on the
the young turks to then on twenty twelve
affix having makes you know uh... sir it's funny we look now at uh... new
hampshire before you look at noon if you see the first-in-the-nation status you
always know your eyes are focused appear any kind of a political junkie at all
on that new hampshire new hampshire this time it's hard probably from the
fishbowl that your hand there
to see it didn't
have the kind of political impact really that it is had in the past is that dealt
in new hampshire
i don't think that i think that the voters care kept their okay
perhaps as at it create they would have been many erin
i think that
b_l_s_ actually
being um... ron paul's
position and in the polls change a little bit today that
e you don't know what's going to happen in the future and and
at maybe there'd
billion dollar maybe they're not that they at bank have taken a screenplay
plays yet no no i i i certainly didn't know that they did in and you feel that
and when you watch new hampshire from anyplace else in the country and i went
to a certain extent in people have a harder time relating with
the article i a when republican voter
you you you tend to uh... you tend to be envious because they're so involved in
the seemed so passionate about it and that then goes to turn out
uh... twenty five percent of of the it seems like those in the early takes by a
a couple of the
news outlets uh... was about twenty five percent of registered voters
uh... played yesterday which is up two percent from from last time from two
thousand aids
uh... but you do see this passion this political passion from afar and it makes
you and is that you don't live in new hampshire if you really like this stuff
because you want to be involved and i think i'm talking out from the
standpoint of
the results not necessarily being surprising was you were surprised by the
mir cells i was really surprised me by the distance that romney won by me one
as of right now it's about seventeen percent which is more than i thought it
would be especially with the polling await in the state and and so i want to
ask you if you were surprised at all by by how the results should go
i want that idont think a lot of people first surprise
by the way that it ended because it ended
remarkably the way it began with romney in front and then he gets
therefor
for most of the campaign out in front and and might be better
candidate come and and rap and fight each other and
crumble
turn-by-turn
erp didn't really i've anyone awaited answer you know again the perception
from afar is that what you do well and i owe you move on to new hampshire
and you're gonna gt carry that momentum from i like didn't turn out that way for
senator sent forum in in new hampshire but is that just sort of amiss that that
this is all the sudden this energy the vietnam co-op
the comes to new hampshire and he carries you there for the clearly didn't
yesterday didn't for brocco bomb in two thousand acres hillary clinton one there
is that amiss
i think it probably is
there's only about a week inbetween ellie that here there is only a week
between iowa and new hampshire and in hampshire voters can't be one in a week
if you have been here for the entire primary gotten off eight and not just
population i think it graphically though it you put the time any effort into it
you could meet every voter you want to meet right com and if you don't make
after it it's evident and encouragement harm came n a few times over the plumber
one-third right in the fall and then he would hear even felt carolina he came
back
it what it really enough future ride away from iowa because new hampshire
voters are looking for their own that that the quality than the canada and
they're looking at depreciate them voters and i would be looking at so
they don't generally
cake i would recommendation that
softball yall that that nana makes for dozens of new when you think of it that
way you do forget that there's a week in between everybody thinks that that you
know it's that
new hampshire's kind of the uh... an extra county and i'll i'll when in fact
it's it is that another place in tyre liotta six the the idea that ron paul
you mentioned before uh... that he did really well there he did better than i
thought he was going to do in new hampshire
uh... despite the fact that the people were starting to see the race take shape
in iowa what what happens in new hampshire to all the paul passion now
where does that go does that go to the republicans as a go
to the democrats is there a clarion call for people who love to start you know if
the polls a third party candidate uh... isn't that passion
i don't know if if that passion on the national level but when you ran into you
got it bad that you had
equally passionate supporters
in that primary rate and they turned that around a acquitted a co-chairman
late-night state that they didn't really even get banned activity patent seven
primary they were already looking act two thousand twelve and date started
getting more involved in at the republican party they started running
for office in the state legislature uh... history a co-chairman our state
senators now are taken and very mind and pretty influential though
um... they position been filled well could be
visible folks men for him
two years ago
i don't know if edited granted the bar littered the the people that are saying
then that it so it's a a movement rather than a candidacy yes that's where they
that's where they see it and linen frankly his numbers tripled
and and uh... new hampshire this time from from last time so that that in has
sort of caught fire
uh... in in more ways than just people running for the legislature in that and
from which i i think is interesting so i also want to ask you about uh... about
the endorsement from the magistrate union-leader actually the new hampshire
union-leader now um... out of manchester a it did they give their endorsement
quite early to newt gingrich when when gingrich was riding high in iowa's poll
numbers were high was before those came down
what of the endorsement one of the importance of the newspaper endorsement
of the work in the newspaper and i know you want to say that they're important
and maybe they are in certain cases but this used to be the endorsement
and of course newt gingrich finished of fourth in the distance for lesson
i think one thing to keep in mind that that the union leaders endorsement might
be the endorsement forever seria grand of
republican voters in a fairly brand of republican candidate but
wantagh for example said last night that lee he think that the union leader for
not endorsing him his own little looking back at light of humanity
because he wasn't looking for those kind of republican he wanted to tell you
are fed up with politics as usual and secret unit that and turn it again newt
and and karen that
as you did not that fire brand and he is not the revolutionary he might have one
and he is now part of the establishment
if you don't like politics as usual come check out that in that yeah
that that that that does make sense and and yeah i think that's the best read on
it that you could possibly have been and those conservative sort of split between
sent ormond gingrich
and had they've been together they wouldn't even come need half of what
romney got in the state last night let's uh... let's listen i want to before we
let you go i want you to listen in on your former governor john sununu john
sununu's asar get from mit romney
the pac money in the package adds in the super packets in in new hampshire i can
only imagine what your television looks like with all these ads all over the
place all the time
i don't like entrapped that care actually there were dress
optically fewer act and that batted is that right that abit that'd
period that their lack of
at has been that one of the
topics among uh... journalists and political pundit than that
polly packer factors that we are
interview all the time just talking about how no one with spending the money
that the defend here you know that's interesting is that dispels the myth
because we sit here hearing about the super packed so we can only as i said
before imagine that that that there was are flooded with ups so do you feel the
effects of the super pac money there
i think repeal the affected the act that car and uh...
tend to be a little bit map here they're a little bit
more if if they quit their allegations and and l little more at hominem because
they don't have to have that candidate name at the end no one realized that
there is a
mit romney and i'd support that but i'm asking for your vote and then being very
negative about it for i think it no one had to do that
that they could be a little nap
we know that that as we noticed that there were fewer out them now and that's
great that's why it's always great to have somebody who is a reporter from the
states
on the job because it it gives you an impression uh... from afar that again
that that that's what you're seeing all the time that let's listen and john
sununu talking about uh... those super pack ad say he's a former governor
hampshire former senator from new hampshire
he is a star get uh... for mit romney
uh... this is clip number one there's going to ask you is that kind of strong
finish that the president was shot in new hampshire and then the collapse of
the general is is there something in the rodney king and see that you see
*** will will put more projects are you a distant outcome
yes the rodney king and see what and i like it's living here
uh... he's not running as an income but he's running in a fully channel
challenged bribery and putting those winds together and he's going to he's
prepared to go through this whole process pick up the delegates to go
forward
rodney also has one advantage that george bush didn't have mitt romney's
running against an absolutely incompetent president for its role in
this country's economy that hasn't done anything to save jobs and is only going
to try and run by attacking rodney instead of standing on his record but i
think that ground is the one candidate that can withstand that kind of a
campaign
i wanna ask you about running begins wrong running and so bomb or rather than
running against the other candidates to do you feel that
in pile up in new hampshire as as a pertain to romney specifically
absolutely ecad not
take on any of the challenges that they really
uh... eighty villages we did it al
e i've been speaking and you could hear it and it deep last night
eight evite
looking straight at the president and then looking at the general election
per month now yeah you you could see that in his speech he he didn't mention
the president by name other than a couple of times in that speech but he
alluded to the fact that he was
overlooking his is up on its his immediate opponents and and running for
president
does that work
aidid seemed to be working for him so far it seen that you know if you can
avoid engaging in
personally and the negative campaigning and indeed employee id
the appearance
arrows
stooping to any type of attack
day
curator extent
clean even though it may not be fed a candidate there
lobbying
attack that him rights of that will serve limo here with the concord monitor
we really thank you for coming on the show yet given valuable insight and we
want to bring you back not just for four years from now but maybe during the year
to talk about how the general should be up to new hampshire
great and actually before i kow if anyone is looking for our past coverage
for for insight into how the entire campaign and folded
over the plumber and the follower at concord monitor dot com
and the estimated for each candidate with all of our coverage and we will
uh... we will make sure that we put that up when we put this clip of that will
arise concord monitor dot com the most into uh... sarah form a certain things
back with more twenty twelve efforts
