My name is Michael Goode.
I established Canton Community Gardens back in 2009.
We're developing the garden at Chapter here in Cardiff.
I've been gardening from a young age with my mother.
I want to expand the activity for the entire community.
The idea is to open it up for the community with a project like this.
We started working with Chapter 2 years ago.
We wanted to develop our own garden.
...And decided it should be a community activity and raise money to buy a green house...
...All sorts of different plants...
...Rebuild the walls and so on.
Over the years, we've collected £60,000 all together.
There's 10-15 volunteers who take part regularly.
Varying from young children to people who have retired.
We meet up regularly every month to discuss the garden.
We also discuss other activities.
Such as collecting rubbish to organising fairs.
We also discuss activities for the near future.
People enjoy helping out...
Overall, the work is physical.
But we only do a couple of hours every now and again, we don't work on it all day long.
If you wanted to do something else, you could water the plants...
...Plant seeds in the greenhouse...
There's plenty of things to do!
We have all sorts of things here...
...Potatoes, herbs, lavender...
...Hazelnuts, apple trees...
We leave enough space to grow seasonal vegetables.
We're now going to work with local schools so they can have their own space.
There's 7 local primary schools.
It's important for them to be a part of it.
Chapter have been very supportive of the project.
Some of their staff even help out!
They come to our events such as our gardening evenings.
They've helped a lot with raising money, and without them, we wouldn't have been able to do it!
