Hi, my name is Rozanne Paxman
and today I'm going to talk to you a little bit about numbers and what they may
or may not be doing to you.
All right, here some of my numbers. As of today
I am 55 years old.
I've been married to my sweetheart for 37 years.
I have four children.
I have four grandchildren.
and I have four brothers.
Do you think that means something? I graduated from college
in 1987 and
as of today, I weigh 165.
You know why I'm telling you what I weigh?
It's because a while ago I read this really great book.
I can't remember what it is at the moment, but I do remember the author said
that one of the reasons people have a hard time losing weight
is that they let the number they see on the scale define them.
They look down and if they see 175, They go around saying, I'm 175! I'm 175! Oh no, I
weigh 175!
and then they do all the things in their head that
tells them what 175 means to them... what they can and cannot do in their lives
because they weigh 175. And he suggested
that maybe what we need are scales that when we look down, instead of seeing what we
see - what we actually are -
we see the number we want to be. Instead of seeing 165 on my scale, I can look down and go
135! Yeah, I weigh 135!
And you know, I kept thinking about that and so
I made those little stickies. And I wrote 135 and put it on my scale.
That just cracks up my family. Periodically, I'll take it off and see
what I really weigh and then, I put it right back.
That's why I made at the last week - the video that says
Guarantee Way to Lower the Number on Your Scale! Well, that's where I came up with that
idea.
But now, here's the funny thing about it. When I started
putting the fake number - the number I wanted to be on my scale
I lost 10 pounds. Now, I don't know if that it is just a coincidence, but
you know I think you really has something to do with it
because I stopped thinking...ugh...I'm 175. I'm 175.
Everything is hopeless. I can't do anything in my life because I weigh 175.
The truth is I've gone through my life thinking I can't do things.
I used to be in theater - I used to actually direct theater.
and then I gained weight and I thought, "Now I can't be in the theater anymore."
I gave us something I love. I wanted to start this
inspirational YouTube channel for a long time but I told myself
"Oh, my gosh...Who'se going to want to watch a video with me on it?
I'm a grandma. I'm not super thin.
I can't wear like...oh, all of those cute clothes the other YouTubers wear.
And so I didn't. And then I started saying to myself, "What am I?
I'm not a number. I have something to offer. I feel really
deeply about things." And things I want to pass on to you...
things I've learned that are making my life better and I will not pass them on to
you, too.
So, I'm here to say, "What's your number?
And what does it matter? The only reason it matters
is if you let that number that you're carring around in your head
stop you from doing the things you should. You have gifts.
We need your gifts. So go ahead...
Why not? Bye!
