and now it's time for our first arts & culture segment of the week with lee tae ho. today
tae ho brings us some news from the film world . good afternoon tae ho.
good afternoon conn-young.
so it seems like a lot of people were at the movies this weekend.
that's right and what a great weekend it was for movie-goers and you're right about the
high attendance -- which likely helped give korea its first blockbuster with 10 million
admissions... of the year.
the first month of the new year has yet to come to a close but korea already has its
first blockbuster of 2014. and continuing the trend of domestic films
dominating the korean box office the first big hit of the year is a korean film.
a mere 33 days since its release the attorney has hit the all-important blockbuster mark
with ticket sales of 10 million. according to the korean film council the figure
was hit early sunday morning at 1 a.m. the film was directed by rookie filmmaker
yang woo-seok who is originally a webtoon artist and stars the highly acclaimed actor
song kang-ho. this is song's first film to hit the 10-million
mark in eight years since his 2006 movie the host although he did have two films hit 9
-million just last year. the attorney is loosely based on the early
career of the late president roh moo-hyun and the burim incident of 1981 that occurred
in busan when a group of students and teachers was tagged as communists by the authoritarian
government.
