Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of "Andrew's Kitchen".
In this episode, I'm going to be showing you guys how to make a YouTube Cake!
I've never made a YouTube Cake before, so this is a first-time attempt,
and I hope you guys can enjoy following along,
so before we go ahead we need:
Strawberry cake mix,
soft marshmallows,
icing sugar,
liquorice and red food colouring.
Start off by following the instructions on the cake mix.
This Betty Crockers mix requires three eggs, a 1/3 of a cup of oil, and 3/4 of a cup of water.
Sift the cake mix to make sure it stays light and fluffy.
Splosh the two together, and beat it for two minutes to whisk some air in there.
Lick the beaters. ;)
Line a brownie tray with baking paper, and cut the corners so that it fits.
Pour the batter in, and even it out.
Lick the bowl!
Pop it into a 180 degree Celcius oven for 25 minutes.
And on to the fondant!
Tip a bag of marshmallowsź Eat one.
Nuke them all for just one minute.
IT'S SO FLUFFY!
Mix it down, and use the cake mix frosting to add the strawberry creme flavour.
Add a big lug of red food colouring, because you don't want pink YouTube cake!
Pour the mixture onto a thick platform of icing.
You'll want to gently push and fold the icing into the mixture,
until a not-so-sticky fondant is achieved.
I'd say expect to use about 500 grams of icing sugar or more at this bit.
SUCCESS!
By now your cake base should be ready.
Pierce the cake with a skewer, and if it comes out clean, and the top is bouncy -
it's good to go!
Set the loose icing to one side, and clean up the mess.
Print out a YouTube logo on paper, and cut off the edges just to make a guide.
Using toothpicks, I secured the top, and cut the shape around the base.
Now lay out some baking paper, and roll out your fondant.
In the process, constantly dust your rolling pin with left over icing sugar.
Use the guide to estimate the top and sides of your cake.
Flip it onto your cake, and hold your breath and you remove the paper!
Press in the sides, and move on to your white lettering.
Using the same process, nuke some more marshmallows.
It's good to grease your surface before mixing fondant - it's heaps easier to clean.
Make well in the icing sugar and fold it in.
Boom!
Use the YouTube printout guide to cut out the lettering.
Place them face-up, and cut them out gently with a knife.
Lift up the lettering, and fix any errors while it's loose.
Now with your guide as a stencil, use water to moisten the gaps where the lettering will go.
This will serve as an adhesive for each letter as they are cut and fit into place.
"Yay!"
"Look at that! That's so cool!"
Crack open your liquorice, and cut the lengths in place for the black lettering.
Eat the off-cuts. Yum!
Now, for the home-run. Trim off the frilly edges of the cake, and present it nicely for the photoshoot.
Thank-you so much for watching my first ever cake tutorial!
It was inspired by my Australian YouTube friend CakesByChoppa,
who posts an awesome cake video every week.
I want to shout out also to Todd from SimpleEasyCooking,
