In this video, we're going to take a look at the Pop Culture Universe
which is a great resource for information about pop culture topics
in the US in the 20th century.
Beginning on the library home page, click on the link that says "Info Tree Subject Resources"
and then do a search for "pop culture."
The first result that comes up is what you want
"Pop Culture Universe." Click on the title.
And then you should be in the database.
You can browse for a particular decade
such as the 1990s.
Or you can browse for a particular topic using the index.
So here you have a list of "subjects," "people," "movies," and "TV shows."
When you click on a subject it should show you all the articles about that person.
So here's everything that is about Paula Abdul.
You can also use the search functions
by clicking on "Quick Search" or "Advanced Search."
I'm going to do a keyword search for "apocalypse"
You have some options to limit down here for a place, subject or decade
I'm just going to do a regular keyword search.
And now I can see there are lots of sources here about the apocalypse.
Including some biographies and images.
The first one..."Apocalyptic Television at the Turn of the Millennium,"
is actually from a book about the supernatural in American culture
I'm going to click on that title so that I can read this source.
Once I get in, I can see that my search terms are highlighted
which helps me see if I actually want to read this
or, I can use the tools over on the right hand side
to cite, email, or print the article.
So that's a quick look at the Pop Culture Universe.
If you have any questions, remember you can always return to the OU Libraries home page
and use the link to "Ask a Librarian."
