Today was the official beginning of this legislative session. I’m always optimistic on the first
day of session that we’ll work very hard to make this a bipartisan seeking of solutions
to all of the many problems that we have to face here in Indiana. Of course, we have the
budget to address, which is perhaps our most important duty, but there are a lot of other
issues too having to do with transparency in government, public access to government.
For the first time in a long time, we have a one party rule at the Statehouse. Both the
House and the Senate have a Republican majority, and we have a Republican governor. And so
our job will be to make sure that the minority voices are heard. So we have to be very vocal,
we have to work very hard and be very smart. And we will do that.
