and he's currently the Site Engineer in charge of ELV
meaning extra low voltage. What does a Site Engineer do?
He's in charge of supervising over 190 personnel
in installing phone and alarm connection.
Mr. Neil, can you discuss to our viewers on how Engr. Eugene manages his men?
According to him, he do not use the authoritative style
but instead he prefer professional leader style meaning
first, you should know your men, you should know the strong points of each of your men
first, you should know your men, you should know the strong points of each of your men
So that u know where he can contribute much. Be a good model of your team
So that u know where he can contribute much. Be a good model of your team
always set a good example to your team. For example
when it comes to time if you set a meeting with your crew and you tell 'em
9 a.m. sharp
he should be there 15 or 30 minutes before the meeting
Show them that you follow your own rules so they would follow it too
Well that's a nice thing to do. Like the way he motivates his team.
He says that there are different types of people he handle so first thing to do is
to tell them what is their
part in the team, their duty, responsibility
And clearly tell them the goal that need to achieve. As a fellow men give them
importance and respect.
Check all their need in terms of materials
family and financial things that can bother them to contribute their best for the team
the team
Well, although it's not that much of a motivation but he says it just the right push he do for them
push he do for them. "Don't worry, even showing small kindness can make a difference" he said.
push he do for them. "Don't worry, even showing small kindness can make a difference" he said.
If there's a way he motivates his team
there's also a way on how he disciplines them. First of all
he mentions that don't go overboard when disciplining your team
because there is always a company policy. The policy shall be in effect to everybody
without exemption
then implement the punishment according to policy because you cannot just give
an act of punishment on your own
There is a thing that is called "Labor law" that protects each
and every worker, Even you're the one managing the team
you should act accordingly and not abuse your authority.
I agree with that because they can take up their appeal in the court
and things might get messy. Well, putting that aside
he has a very good way of perceiving what a dream team is. According to him
it's how you appreciate the work of your subordinates to acknowledge them as
your dream team.
What's the good of having good subordinates when they think they are better than you
It would just create conflict among the team. As long as they respect me and
recognize me as their leader
I would say I have my dream team. As we heard in the interview
his experience really speak for himself. Sharing his own ideas by the knowledge
he acquired as a manager. Actually, there is a lot of things he mentioned out
but what strikes me most is that when he said that seminar's are important
if you have the opportunity to attend one and don't hesitate
it can improve you then share it with your team so they can progress too
It really shows his dedication for his team. I like that
thought. Furthermore, he told us that before trying to manage other people we
should manage our self first.
Because how can we organize other people when yourself isn't organize at all.
As the topic at hand go deeper, we ask him what he thinks is his strength when it
comes to leading
and he said that giving clear instruction prior for implementation that his my strongest points
and he said that giving clear instruction prior for implementation that is his strongest points
He will assure that the instruction he'll give is clearly understood by the person whom he assigns
assigns the task.
Well i admire the fact that he said once you know your weaknesses
you can become stronger as well as kinder. That's why we don't bother him much
on asking his weaknesses instead we ask on what he think is his areas for improvement
Personally he said that he need to improve in
coping up in today's advancement.
Well, I think it's common for us, for all of us and
he said that it's now been through seminars he's attending right now to
improve his skills
and to cope up with technology nowadays
The last question we gave him in the interview
of what the best practices you can share with us. He said that
what ever the task given to us by the company
you should always finish it with our team. It's not a one man job to finish
that's why you have the support of your team. And he also told us to always practice the habit
of finishing what is started
because it can improve you in ways you don't notice. Well, that summarizes all our
interview from Engr. Eugene
If you ask me I think I would emulate some of his practices
like how he manages, motivate and discipline his team.
And all in all despite his weaknesses and some other factors to consider
he is quite the leader for the job. Having manage all those workers for 2 years now.
I totally agree with you Obet. He is something to be proud of
since he's working with different nationalities there in Qatar
not just simply working with other nationalities
but he's actually leading them and earning their respect
