Rescue workers have recovered the bodies of nine sailors killed when a cargo ship crashed
into a sea wall off the coast of South Korea. The ship was anchored off the port of Pohang
city, but high winds and waves forced it into the wall, causing it to partly sink. Efforts
to rescue survivors have been ongoing since last night, but the storm has made it extremely
difficult. Eight members of the crew have been found alive so far -- some of them were
spotted floating in the choppy waters, while others had managed to cling on to the damaged
boat.
Two people are still missing.
The ship belonged to the Lishen International Shipping Group Corp, based in China. It had
unloaded in Pohang and was en route to Japan when the storm hit. It was carrying around
130 tons of bunker oil and diesel fuel.
Investigations have now begun into how the accident happened. Initial reports suggest
it could be down to a faulty anchor. But in the meantime, the search for the missing crew
members continues.
