Hello everyone and welcome to How to Mom TV, I’m Emily Frances. Today we’re
talking about “Eggs on Ice,” is Egg Freezing a good choice? If you’re young, single,
and a career woman, chances are you aren’t thinking about getting married and having
children right away. You’re in the majority, as women are simply having children later
in life. But the reality is ladies, your eggs are fighting a losing battle and you need
to be thoughtful about your life and factor where babies fit into your life plan. Every
year that goes by, you are losing over 7000 of your viable eggs. I sat down with Dr. Jamie
Grifo, renowned Director of the NYU Fertility Center. Dr. Grifo is a pioneer of egg freezing
and is trying to get the message out there to young women that it is a viable insurance
policy.
((Dr. James Grifo, NYU Fertility Center)) You have to be proactive about how you want
your life to work out because you cant assume you ill get pregnant. We all spend our lives
thinking it’s a G-d given right to have a child, but it is not. it is a gift, it is
a privilege, it is a miracle. It’s not something to be taken for granted. Egg freezing is complicated,
it has social complications. Whats the right age to do it? We know biologically the younger
the better, but I dont think it’s so smart to be in denial about freezing your eggs.
You dont know where your life is going. You might not need it, you may be too young. But
somewhere around 30 is the optimal age because your life is taking a trajectory.
You can make good decisions. Is this something I should do and something that makes sense
for me?
((Host Emily Frances How to Mom TV)) And here’s a take home fact: You may not
know this but we females are born with all of our eggs, millions of them. But by the
time we get our first periods, we only have approximately 600,000 eggs left. And what’s
even more alarming is that you lose as many as 600 eggs with every cycle. If you have
any questions for me or Dr. Grifo please go to our How to Mom TV Youtube Channel, our
website and social media channels. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon.
