Hi there! In this video, I'm going to demonstrate three recode options that will show you how to make some common typographical updates to
your data. I'm going to review how to turn all uppercase strings to titlecase and how to remove (or trim)
extraneous spaces from outside and in between text strings.
To change the uppercase strings, I'm going to select the name column and click Recode.
Then, in red triangle menu, I'm going to select Convert to Titlecase, and then click OK.
In the gender column, I see that there is white space before one of the values. I'm going to select this column, open the Recode dialog, and
select Trim Whitespace. This will remove any extra spaces from before or after any of the values.
In the homeroom column, to remove extra white space from between the values, I'm going to select Recode
and then Collapse Whitespace from the menu. This is used when there are two or more spaces between the values, and it will remove
all but one of the spaces. If you want to see how to remove all of the spaces between the values, watch the related video:
How to Remove the Space between Character Values. Thanks for watching!
