Mahāprabhu told everyone: harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā
Mahāprabhu told everybody to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahāmantra, the Holy Name.
But what did Nityānanda Prabhu say?
bhaja gaurāṅga kaha gaurāṅga laha gaurāṅgera nāma ye jana gaurāṅga bhaje se jana haya āmāra prāṇa
Nityānanda Prabhu did not chant, "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa."
Nityānanda Prabhu chants: bhaja gaurāṅga kaha gaurāṅga ;aha gaurāṅgera nāma
ye jana gaurāṅga bhaje se jana haya āmāra prāṇa
At Kṛṣṇa Dās Kavirāj Goswāmī´s brother's house,
a programme was going on, but they were not giving respect to Nityānanda Prabhu.
They were only giving respect to Mahāprabhu, not to Nityānanda Prabhu, because He is an avadhūt.
Sometimes He changes His clothes. Sometimes He goes from house to house.
Some cannot recognise Him as Balarām's Avatār, [one of the] Daśāvatārs.
If you give respect to one, but disrespect the other, that is ardha-kukkutī-nyāya.
You will not get mercy if that kind of situation happens in your life.
You will not get mercy because you do not give respect to the Āśraya-vigraha.
If you go directly to the Viṣaya-vigraha, you will not get mercy. This is ardha-kukkutī-nyāya.
Kṛṣṇa's Name, Beauty, and Pastimes are nondifferent from Kṛṣṇa.
Mahāprabhu said, "You will preach Kṛṣṇa's Name."
But Nityānanda Prabhu did not do wrong. He preached, "[Mahāprabhu] is nondifferent from Kṛṣṇa.
"His Name, Beauty, Pastimes, and He Himself are nondifferent from Kṛṣṇa."
Nityānanda Prabhu did not do wrong. Nityānanda Prabhu is correct.
He is preaching, "Kaha Gaurāṅga laha Gaurāṅga." That is also a very nice Name, "Kaha Gaurāṅgera Nama re."
Gurudev also told, "If you pay obeisance to the Lord but do not pay obeisance to the Lord's servant,
then the Lord will not take that obeisance, that daṇḍavat praṇām." Understand?
Therefore, when we are doing pūjā, we are doing Guru-pūjā first.
Nityānanda Prabhu is nondifferent from Guru.
He is Āśraya-vigraha. If you do not take shelter of the Āśraya-vigraha, He who gives shelter,
then you cannot go to the Viṣaya-vigraha [the object of worship]. Mahāprabhu is the Viṣaya-vigraha.
If you go first to the Viṣaya-vigraha, He will not accept you.
Therefore, Nityānanda Prabhu said to Raghunāth Dās Goswāmī, "Ei āya chorā."
Chorā means thief. "Ei āya chorā. I will punish you.
"You will feed everybody, all of the Vaiṣṇavas.
"Then your offence will be removed.
"You did some wrong. Without My instruction, and in a hidden way, you went and met Mahāprabhu in Śāntipur.
"Therefore, you are a thief. In a hidden way you went without telling Me.
"You are going to Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. Therefore, Mahāprabhu did not accept you many times.
"'Go back. Go back to your house.'
"Now I am punishing you." Punishment means mercy.
Raghunāth Dās Goswāmī got that mercy.
saṁsāra samudra ha-ite more kara pāra āmāra māthāya tomār charaṇ dhūli dekhe
"I am paying obeisance to You. Put Your legs on my head. Give me your mercy.
"You can take me out from the illusory environment. Only You can take me.
"Please rescue me from this illusory environment."
Nityānanda Prabhu said, "Oh, now you can go and meet with Mahāprabhu."
Finally he got that mercy.
