Hi, this is William Cane, and I'd like to discuss the issue of hairstyles for middle-aged
women. We get many inquiries about what they should do with their hair, and there are some
very definite recommendations that we can provide for you. Number one recommendation
is you want to make sure that your hair is neat, that there are no fly-aways. Number
two, the hair should generally not be longer than shoulder-length. And number three, we
have found that a very effective hairstyle for the middle-aged woman, one which she probably
hasn't really considered because it's a retro look, but which nevertheless is very good
and has passed the test of two dozen men and women that we ran these styles by, and I'm
talking about a style known as the bouffant hairstyle, or also called the beehive hairstyle,
which was very popular in the 1950s and 1960s. And you may wonder why such a style is effective,
and there are a couple of reasons. One is it's very neat. And secondly, it's also very
appealing and could add extra dimension and height to a woman, especially during a time
in her life when she may be shrinking slightly in height. I would like to invite people in
this age bracket to try this suggestion before you reject it out of hand. I know it sounds
unusual. If you need an example of this hairstyle you may want to look at some photographs of
Ronnie Spector, who was the lead singer for the Ronnettes, a band that was produced by
Phil Spector in the 1960s very successfully. Well, believe it or not the bouffant hairstyle
or the bee style will really work for a middle-aged woman. This is the type of unusual research
that Manhattan Makeovers discovers and shares with out our clients. And I hope it helps
you the next time you try to decide what to do on a bad hair day.
