>> We didn't realize in the very beginning
that the bell...bell's rope was rung by students.
Basically anybody who wanted to pull it could do so.
And now when we get the bell in here, we noticed that the top
of the bell had been broken.
We noticed that the bell yoke; that had been broken
and it had been broken more than once
because that is not the original yoke
that was supposed to be on that bell.
So someone ingeniously took a bell yoke off of a bell
of similar size and made it work on that.
Hello, my name is Dean Isaacs, Welder/Fabricator
for The Verdin Company.
I do all the bell hardware and bell work for the swingers;
swinging bells and stationary bells.
I build the strikers that go on the stationeries.
All the little dents in the bell that you see here are
from over the years, people using whatever they could find
to hit the bell to make it ring.
At one time, the clapper was replaced so it didn't have one
so apparently to make it ring; someone climbed up in there
and hit it with a hammer or any hunk of metal they could find.
That's what causes all these little nicks and dents
and the chips in the edges are usually from the same thing
where they've hit it with something
but it gives an old bell like this character.
[ Pause ]
>> Alright.
[Inaudible] Alright.
Alright, come a little...there you go,
come to me a little more.
Ok, we're good.
You want to put these blocks under and set it down there?
>> I'm going to direct traffic.
Rob McCurley seems like he's spearheading this project
right now.
Everything's running smoothly right now.
Just trying to get the [inaudible] from location B
to primary location A.
>> We're going to be prayer over this thing.
I've done been praying on it, but it don't work.
What's going to happen from now...from here on out at 3:15,
Clark County is going to meet us at the monuments.
They're going to block the road for us so now we've got
to get ourselves prepared between now and then.
[ Traffic Noises ]
On one occasion I was told that the Gators came in here
and they had one and their guys came up
and started ringing our bell and our guys didn't like it
so they cut it off; they cut the rope off [laughs].
[ Inaudible Background Noise ]
>> Oh, there was...like I say, there was a big group effort.
There were a lot of guys involved and a lot
of good tradesmen at what they do; carpenters, painters,
welders, the guys in sheet metal shop did the roof
and we fabricated the brackets up
and I mean it was a group effort.
Everybody's done a really, really good job.
It was kind of overwhelming to look at again, when we saw it
on blueprints, but everything turned out really, really well.
We're very pleased with the way it turned out;
it looks really, really good.
