One of the VJ16-4 mixer’s highly appreciated tools is the keyer function.
The keyers enable you to easily embed in virtual backgrounds
your subjects filmed in front of a green background with amazing quality
but also to overlay titles and graphics.
For successful results, 3 types of keyers are available:
the colour keyer which can make transparent any precise colour
ideal for integrating a title from a computer.
the chroma keyer which can make transparent any colour and its shaded tones
which is perfect to embed a person
filmed on a green background because it is often unevenly lighted.
Finally, the luma keyer can easily and simply remove bright or dark areas of a video
which makes it very easy to embed a title on a black or white background.
Each of the 4 video tracks has its own keyer
so you can use 4 different keyers simultaneously.
First of all let’s take a look at the colour keyer.
We are going to select the track on which we find a title played by a computer.
We select the colour keyer mode.
Straightaway on your auto-preview output an exclusive selection eyedropper will appear
which is very useful as you don’t have to enter into a menu
and to parameter the colour you want to make transparent:
here you just need to select on the screen the colour you want to delete.
I also have 2 settings to improve my keyer result
a tolerance setting which will define the colour tolerance of my keyer
and a transition setting which will create a transparence adjuster
to eliminate the noise and thus refine the contours of the figure you want to embed.
Now that my title is active on the foreground,
I select the track with the presenter and I activate the chroma keyer mode.
In the same way I am going to select the colour I want to remove,
then activate my keyer.
There too I will use my tolerance and transition settings
to refine my contours.
Finally if I want to add a white logo on a black background
I will use the luma keyer to remove the black background
and thus very simply superimpose my logo.
You see here that I have a 4 track production:
a title in front of a presenter,
in front of a logo,
all of which is in front of a background.
This possibility of putting the mixer’s functions together makes is very usefull.
I am no longer limited to just one keyer available only on a restricted number of video sources
I can easily put together several effects and functions to obtain results
equivalent to those of a broadcast video mixer.
