Hi, Michael Burton and we're here talking about choosing a wedding videographer for
your wedding day. A very important aspect to look at when choosing a wedding videographer
is their style. Each videographer has a different style or technique. The two main ones that
I want to talk about today is documentary style and music video style. They are so different.
For the last ten of fifteen years, everybody has shot, pretty much documentary style, but
it's been very home video looking. You can get a lot of good wedding videos now that
are documentary style that are very fairly cleanly shot. When we say documentary, if
you've ever seen a documentary film, it's shot very straight forward. Most of them have
a tripod and with audio where you'll hear audio and you'll see scenes of what's going
on, and then it will cut back to somebody talking or another scene of your wedding.
It's got a really straight forward feel to it and everything shot on a tripod and very
still, there's not a lot of creativity, there's not a lot of motion. Now, if you like kind
of thing a documentary style might be the best thing for you to go with. Now, a music
video style is kind of what we go with at Michael Burton Films. Because, it's a lot
more creative, it's a lot more artistic, and it's exactly like it sounds, it's more of
a music video style. If you watch music videos on TV, they tend to be just put to music,
there's not a lot of audio, except for the person singing. So, that's what we do. We
take the shots of your wedding day, which are shot very creatively. We use different
angles. Low angles, high angles, we do a lot of sweeping motions with our glide camera
and steady cam. We try to put together something very professional and kind of cinematic. So,
it looks more like a music video and that's a different style. It's very effective. If
that's the type of thing that you like, then a music video style videographer would be
the best person to go with. There are not a lot of videographers out there that shoot
in the music video style; they still tend to lean more towards the documentary styles
opposed to the music video. For the last ten of fifteen years it's mostly been the documentary
style kind of mixed with a home video feel. But the music video approach to shooting a
wedding video is a lot more dramatic and a lot more powerful. As a matter of fact, those
of us that shoot in this music video style think of themselves more as directors because
we're out there directing and kind of giving you an idea of what we want to see on screen
and put with this music. The music kind of gives us the inspiration that we use to put
together your video. So, you actually tend to get a much better video than you would
with a documentary style wedding video.
