This morning I would like to give you a quick review of basic information about macronutrients.
These are our sources of caloric energy and materials that the body needs for maintenance
of structure and function. I still think there is tremendous confusion in our society about
macronutrients. One example of that is the fact that I still see many people going on
diets which they decide to leave out one class of macronutrients or drastically reduce consumption
of one. Particularly to go on extremely low fat diets or low carbohydrate diets or try
to eliminate those. The fact is we need all of these class of nutrients in the right proportions
and the right kinds and I think one of the changes that have come about in understanding
of nutrition in recent years is that the kinds of calories more than the number of calories
you eat is very significant. That certainly applies to things like the kinds of fats we
eat and the kinds of proteins we eat and the kinds of carbohydrates.
