Today on our 2013 Mazda CX-5 we'll be test fitting the Yakima Highlite Aluminum 2-bike
Carrier, part number Y02438. To mount our carrier to the vehicle we'll insert theshank
of the carrier into the receiver tube of our hitch. We'll line up the hitch pinholes, secure
our back rack with the safety pin, and then use the hand *** at the baseof the carrier
to tighten the anti-rattle wedge. Next we'll go over a handful of clearance measurements.
We've got about 10-1/2" ofground clearance and about 4" of clearance between the closest
part of the carrier andthe closest part of the vehicle. Overall we've added about 12"
of length to the rear ofour vehicle with the carrier's arms folded down.
Now we also want to check for rear vehicle access. To do this we'll use the pole pinat
the base of the rack to tilt the carrier down. We just want to make sure that we canopen
our hatch door all the way and access the cargo area, even with the bike rackinstalled.
Now we'll put the rack back up and prepare to load a bike. We'll use theswitch at the
top of the carrier to fold the arms out, and we'll also undo the rubberstraps of the cradles
closest to
the vehicle.
