my role is regional partnership manager and I work across the North of England
what my role is about is to actually bridge the gap between
the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry
in the industry we make medicines to improve patient outcomes and we're very keen to ensure that patients get
the best possible outcomes
from the medicines they're taking. We're also very keen to support the NHS to make sure they get the
best value
out of the medicines they're investing in. One particular way that we're
doing this is through working with the NHS
sort of joint working with partnerships and collaborations
to improve the optimising of medicines
with the medicines optimisation agenda
the pharmaceutical industry are very keen to support the medicines optimisation agenda, and we're working with
national stakeholders with NHS England, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
to ensure that the elements of tmedicines optimisation are actually going to be
embedded within
practice. The four elements that we're
very conscious of is to make sure that the patient is wholly involved
and the patient experience with their medicines is wholly involved in
the choice of medicines and that the patients actually take their medicines
so we get the full adherence aswell
that the choice of medicines is evidence based and the use of
innovation and nice technology appraisals are actually embedded within practice
And very importantly that patient safety is embedded
within practice and the whole safety element
of medicines. And finally routine practice so the patients are regularly reviewed and
their medication is constantly checked and looked at
to make sure that the outcomes are the best they possibly can
so yes, the industry are wholly supportive of this work
and we would encourage the NHS to reach out
and to work with partners in the commercial sector
to actually improve the life of patients
