Taiwan TV crew shot in India attack
Indian capital New Delhi's
Jama Masjid mosque
was the scene of a shooting yesterday.
A Taiwan TV crew filming at the scene
were caught up in the shooting
and two of the crew were injured.
The show's host Sasa was uninjured in the attack.
The crew arrived at the site at 11am
and disembarked to prepare for filming.
Suddenly, the two gunmen pulled up on a motorbike
and started firing at the mosque.
They also fired at the crew.
One bullet scraped a crew members head
while another was hit in the stomach.
The two then took advantage of the ensuing chaos to escape.
Cameraman Gu Tse-wei's is stable
after being treated for a head wound,
while Camerman He Chiang, who was shot in the stomach,
needed an emergency operation.
She [Sasa] has phoned home to reassure her mother
she is ok. She is just a little shaken.
They plan to wait for the cameraman to be treated
and his condition to stabilise before coming back home.
Following the incident Indian authorities put
New Delhi on the highest state of emergency.
A terrorist group called "Indian Mujahideen"
claimed responsibility for the attack,
saying their aim was to send a message
ahead of next month's Commonwealth Games.
Apart from issuing an apology to Taiwan, the Indian government
had also arranged extra security for the crew.
