someone on the other big issues and by the way folks you're listening to take
action news on we act radio special thanks to everybody listening to us in
washington in Chicago or affiliated stations
you because you're confronted about administration and its gonna want is
gonna burn up
everybody for the summer that is immigration reform comprehensive
immigration reform passed the US senate
with bipartisan support eighteen republican senators join the democrats
I'm sorry sixteen Republican senators total 68 votes in support immigration
reform
in the house house speaker Republican House Speaker John Boehner said that he
will not
allow a straight up-or-down vote on the Senate bill that what they're gonna do
was there gonna break it into pieces and deal with issues like border security
first
spending more money to secure the border adding more border agents
and then maybe later in the fall several months now maybe
there will be a republican proposal for a path to citizenship for the 11 million
immigrants are in this country well its it's a it's a huge political issue it's
also huge policy issue and former President George W Bush actually way DN
he was speaking at an immigration sermon E
and here's what he had to say about the need for immigration reform
we can evolve our traditions assimilating immigrants
and honoring our heritage have a nation built on the rule of law
but we have a problem the laws
governing the immigration system aren't working the system is broken
so there you have the Obama administration getting a pretty good as
CS my former President George W Bush without the president without president
bush actually endorsing the proposal he's essentially saying we need to get
something done the system is broken
and so you'd think that would add enough momentum to convince some republicans
some Republicans say okay with second may be politically we can't win
with Hispanic voters until we get something done and oh by the way the
position we have now essentially doing nothing about the Senate propose that's
a non-starter but
house Republican Speaker John Boehner standing firm the leadership is standing
firm
and here's president Obama's explanation as to why some thinkin passing
bipartisan measure the United States Senate
but fail to even be given a vote in the US House
I believe we are finally in a moment were comprehensive immigration reform is
within our grasp
but I promise you this: the closer we get
no more promotional this debate is going to pick up
and they're a lot of folks out there who say the more
racist and stereotypical the views of hispanics
are going to be calm keep in mind folks the 99.99 percent
love the spandex latinos who were here a legally the only one day have broken was
essentially crossing the border without going through proper
you know proper border control I but since they've been here
they have obeyed the law they have follow the rights and responsibilities
I love normal citizenship although they don't have regular citizenship know by
the way that's driving lot of companies and businesses crazy because there's no
clear standards about a treat these workers and they're able to be paid for
less the minimum way it's because they're not citizens and
so there's a great desire across the political spectrum to somehow try and
fix this but again
republicans Republican House leadership adamantly opposed here's the explanation
from
Michele Bachmann on a day when House Speaker John Boehner got his entire
house caucus together they had discussion about this but here's what
Michele Bachmann said
there is no conversation I see all the action to secure the border
reporter isn't secure and the last thing we're going to do is vote for bill
that's going to hurt the middle class and steal jobs away from the middle
class depressed wages
now is always Michele Bachmann got some other completely wrong it's not gonna
steal jobs
it's not going to depress wages what it's gonna do is actually help the
economy the Congressional Budget Office said that with poor
hundreds of millions of dollars into the economy it nonetheless republicans
have this claim that the border somehow isn't secure despite the fact that we're
actually
is secure and oh by the way would be spending another I'm not twelve thirteen
billion dollars in border security adding another 20,000 border agents
making it more than 40,000 but somehow still that's not enough to get
Republicans to sign up on the senate proposal that would also give
a path a 13-year path for citizenship
for americans who are here and have obeyed the law
amazing coming up we'll take a quick break animal get back we'll talk about
the other big political news of the week
Eliot Spitzer former governor New York is decided to throws hat back in the
rain
for politics interesting take on a possible double standard in terms of
black politicians and why politicians when it comes to getting a second chance
we'll talk about that on the other side of this break
you're listening and watching to take action in Zawiyah radio
