What I love about painting is really just the material, the viscosity of the paint
and the physical action of using paint.
Most of my work recently is based on pouring paint
rather than putting paint down with a paintbrush.
It's not controlled by the artist so it's almost like the paint is a creature.
I can get very systematic with how I mix the colours.
You can create energy with colour, you can create different moods.
This project with this sculptural work,
I'm still pouring materials, I'm treating resin as though it's paint.
My idea is to have these quite large sculptures in the room
like they're creatures from another planet or from another headspace
so that they feel like they're coming into contact with something
that is not part of the rest of the gallery,
not part of their everyday life.
I'm working with an FX guy to see what forms we can come up with.

I usually work on my own so it's been quite nice to work with somebody else on this project.
And even if it's not completely polished,
I think that will be OK.
I think I'd like to be the sort of artist that is always trying new things
and surprising myself and surprising my audience.
I'd like to keep myself on my toes by not knowing if things are going to work out.
It's another thing to have to show that in an exhibition
but we'll see how it goes.
