the opinions expressed by orthopedic surgeon albany ga for the most common kinds of
conditions causing neck pain and back pain that occur through normal wear and tear and are degenerative in nature
that are not appropriate for patients with infections tumors rapidly worsening
symptoms
thoughts expressed herein are not intended as medical advice for any
particular patient
this video is offered as food for thought since many patients struggle
with the decision of whether or not to undergo spinal surgery
my name is mark wolgin an orthopedic spine surgeon in albany ga
i put together this little video so i could share some of my thoughts which
are not meant to be taken his medical advice he got a check with your own
government
i'd like to discuss a little bit about how you decide
whether to have orthopedice surgery
the short answer is you never need spine surgery
it's all up to the patient to decide whether or not they want to go ahead
so here's the deal
if you have back surgery any kind of like to serve you can have one of three results
you're gonna get better your status same or get worse you already know how you
are now the question is whether you're thinking of undergoing a surgical
treatment that hope will help you feel better
there are some cases where high as a physician insurgent would recommend
surgery
for example
even for a herniated disc
orthopedic surgery may not be necessary
unless you were getting a nerve pinched to the point where your muscles were not functioning right
in other words partial paralysis is occurring
i'm probably going to go on the record recommend operative treatment because i
don't think that gets better and a lot of times
if patients have compression and their spinal cord in their cervical spine
and having trouble with fine motor movements and they have problems with
balance or it may be a problem with their bladder control that's a different
situation as the m_r_i_ studies show that you have spinal cord ***
i probably would recommend spine surgery done
but the vast majority of other times it's really up to the patient
the patient litany after this whole discussion they say
you are the doc what would you recommend
and that's why i'm making this video because it really is up to the patient
to decide
if i could guarantee the result undertaken kicking and screaming into
the operating room and they think me when i was done but i can't guarantee
results I guarantee I will do the best i can
but when i take out my instruments and close the loop it's up to the patient's
biology to do the rest
again this is not medical advice this is just my thoughts
as an orthopedic surgeon in albany ga
but i thought i would share them with you
There are many ways to handle neck pain and back pain
maybe a appointed consideration when you're deciding what to do
