>> Nazneen: One of our core values is corporate responsibility. To this end, our company is
working to become a leading military friendly employer in our markets.
>> Brian: I enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969, and served for four years from
1969 to 1973. I really wouldn't be where I am today without serving in the Unites States
Navy and the support that the military has given me. As thousands of military veterans
are expected to retire from active duty in the next year or so, it's our company's
duty and honor to welcome many of them to our ranks. And that's really what our Hiring
Heroes program is all about. >> Melissa: I joined the Army reserves right
after college, because I always wanted to serve in the military and I went through the
officer training program. I learned obviously soldiering skills, but also teamwork and leadership.
After the training I had to find a job and I applied to Blue Cross and Blue Shield and
was hired as a project manager, I think probably based a lot on the fact I had those skills,
the teamwork and leadership. >> Bill: I was enlisted in the United States
Air Force from1971 to 1975. I was a sergeant and my specialty was in computers as an Inventory
Management Specialist. I was informed about the veteran's initiative through
another non-profit organization that I had worked for. Now I interviewed for the process
and was fortunately I was hired on July 16 into the program.
>> Mike: I was Communication Sergeant in the Army, I spent 27 months total over 2 deployments
in Iraq. After I got out of the military I started looking for a job and couldn't find
one. So I ended up going to a veteran's job fair and Blue Cross and Blue Cross and Blue
Shield was there along with some other companies. The main reason I went to Blue Cross and Blue
Shield was because of their support for their veteran's and their families.
>> Bill: I really think it's the work environment and the family kind like attitude they care
about how you succeed in at this company. >> Melissa: I think it is extremely important
that this company is hiring veterans. Not only is the company helping out veterans who
have come home, sometimes they don't have jobs and this is a place they can come and
apply and they have the correct skills get hired into a great company with great benefits,
but the company also benefits. >> Nazneen: Veterans are trained almost in
nearly every occupation and display characteristics such as commitment, flexibility and adoptability.
Trade is essential in today's marketplace. >> Brian: They understand the importance of
integrity, discipline and certainly know how to perform well under pressure.
>> Melissa Criddle: People in the military and especially veterans have sacrificed so
much that it's wonderful to be part of an organization, a company that supports that
and recognizes that so many sacrifices have been made but, and so much has been learned
during those experiences. >> Brian: We really own a debt of gratitude
to all of our veteran's and what a better way to show that than to hire a veteran.
