I think my time at Birmingham set me up really well
for studying for further postgraduate study and then for the world of work
because it provide you with a skillset that that you always use in the workplace
say for example being on the student Staff Committee helped me develop my
communication my presentational skills helped me work in teams
I was a member of student action for Refugees which help me with my
you know with project planning, organization in terms of juggling workload
and society work and then also i was a member
of the debating society so that again helped me with being able to analyze topics
that were of interest to me and then to go ahead and present them which is obviously important
in the world of law especially. Because I was studying social sciences at uni and I
knew that I was going go on to study the graduate diploma in law
I came to see the careers service to ask them to make sense of
what seemed like a minefield at the time to me because I knew there were a lot of
deadlines for applying for law school applying for
different types of formal work experience and I came to them and they presented
me with a really good book called the "Training Contract and Pupillage Handbook"
Which i still have
which told me all the deadlines it gave me a really good insight into a lot of the firms
and they also help me write my CV to make sure that it was appropriate for
the workplace and not applying for
and not applying for a sociological based subject which is obviously what my
CV was more orientated towards beforehand
I think it's a great university even now coming back and
being on campus for the first time since I graduated nearly five years ago
it brings back so many happy memories and
especially it's a really prestigious university
it's got a great reputation in the employment market and
the courses are well-structured and you got a lot of support from
from the course providers and
there's so many different things to get involved in and Birmingham's a great city.
