Journalist: School football team of Petropavlivska Borschagivka, which is in the outskirts of
Kyiv, are discovering Zozulica. The 10-grade pupils are whistling and guessing what Zozulica
actually looks alike.
Boy: It looks like a pigeon. A plumpy one.
Journalist: Authors of the idea, two sport projects managers are sure that during Euro
2012 it will be not only a whistle-pipe. It will be also a souvenir, candy, a symbol on
T-shirts, caps, bags and flags.
Alexander Kucheryavyy: In the centre here you can see the logo of already quite well-known
Zozulica. The bird is a bit paunchy, symbolizing the Ukraine’s wealth. The history period,
represented with Zozulica, is going back for more than 7 thousand years. Among us we call
it an SMS through 7 thousand years.
Alexander Sokolinsky: A joyful Ukrainian song.
Journalist: The project authors are sure that Zozulica will not repeat the destiny of Vuvuzela,
which was banned during the FIFA 2010.
Alexander Sokolinsky: Vuvuzelas created very high pitch sound. Our Zozulica in contrast
has soft ancient sounding.
Journalist: Zozulica has got at least one advantage over the South African Vuvuzela
– it is very easy to start playing. You just have to take it in your hands and blow.
(Whistle) With African pipe things are much more complicated. If you simply blow –
the result will be the following (Whistle). To learn how to play it like a horn one has
to spend hours practicing (Whistle).
Journalist: The Ambassador of South Africa in Ukraine Anders Venter also can’t play
his Vuvuzela. The diplomatist says it is because this is a souvenir edition, decorated with
beads. As for Zozulica, the Ambassador holds it for the first time.
Anders Venter: The size is absolutely different. I wonder what it will be like when 60 thousand
people at Donetsk arena will play it together. I guess it will get rather loud.
Journalist: Afro-Ukrainians from Kyiv band Bambato on request of our program are comparing
the sounding of Vuvuzela and Zozulica. At the stadium they advise to take both.
