Ajax would have loved to be battling it out with Europe's elite in the Champions League.
But after being eliminated from an incredibly hard group, which included Borussia Dortmund
and Real Madrid, Ajax still have the opportunity to add some European silverware to their overflowing
trophy cabinet.
Frank de Boer's side are in a good position to progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.
Ajax lead Steaua Bucharest two nil on aggregate but de Boer knows that the Romanians are more
than capable of overhauling the deficit on home soil.
"Especially here in this stadium with supporters behind them they could score two goals of
course. We did that also at the Amsterdam Arena. But we also want to try and score a
goal and if that's the case than they have to score four goals of course and then it's
more difficult. But they have the quality two or three goals that I'm convinced of."
Steaua are looking to avoid being knocked out at the round of 32 stage for the second
successive season.
Head coach Laurentiu Reghecampf has a cunning plan that he is not willing to reveal.
"I think I have found the best solution, you'll see it during the match and we will also see
it. We hope that the players who start the match will do their jobs as well as they can."
A potential tie against European champions Chelsea or Sparta Prague awaits the victor.
